Q: What are the chances of getting fired for telling someone I get a housing allowance?

I told a new coworker that I get a housing allowance, and I am nervous that my contract will be terminated if he says anything about it.  Anyone know anything about that?  I haven't discussed salary or anything else in my contract.

It depends, were you told not to do this? If so then they can't fire you for that but you will have betrayed their trust. Not sure how they will react to that though. It depends on your employers personality.

If you get the allowance, everyone probably does. I imagine you'd be on the same, or similar contracts.

I could see your boss making it out like they're doing you a special favor by paying it to you though.

In one previous job I was getting 150% of my foreign coworkers' salary for the same position because I negociated instead of accepting the first offer, they ended up knowing about it, no big deal.

iWolf:

Indeed, I'm in that situation now. My colleagues aren't angry at me so much as angry at themselves for not negotiating better. I called the company's bluff and won

The locals probably get an allowance too but the OP's will give them something new to whinge about.
