I understand your reasoning, but I disagree with your outlook.

I would (and will when my daughter gets to that age) advise a potential student to take a major in a field of study, A. they enjoy and B. they are good at.

Why? Because you are much more likely to stay with that subject in those circumstances, than you are if you pick a subject purely for its earning potential.

However, more and more in the UK at least, a Bachelor degree is viewed as an entry level qualification. Past governments have encouraged more and more students to take a degree with the 'official' target being 50% of students to go to university. Some say because of this the standards have fallen lower and lower to the situation where a bachelor degree won't even get you an interview for the really high paid jobs, that takes inside knowledge, contacts (same thing really) or a Masters or higher plus successful experience.

I know that in China medicine and law are good majors for women. But, in a total reversal outside of China, most lawyers are homeless and doctors are noted for being prostitutes on the weekend to make ends meet.

In my opinion, other majors are also a good foundation for finding a well-paid job. Nowadays, you also see more and more women majoring in engineering, for example. Before I left home, the ratio of male students to female students attending the Faculty of Technology (we only have one university) was almost 1:1 ( almost because there were more girls than guys).

in the usa, women have equal rights . so it really doesn't matter. but more women than men go into nursing. and nurses make a ton of money thanks to unions and do much less work than they used to do in the past. nurses now do not do a lot of the menial tasks. so another job title developed. certified nurses assistants, they do the crap nurses don't want to do for about 10 -12 bucks an hour. women more so than men work as secretaries, and they can earn a lot of money. even more so if your boss is a jerk and sexually harasses you.  devil

In Australia, employers are by law prohibited from discriminating against potential employees on the basis of their gender or from paying a different wage based on gender, age or anything than a person's ability to do their job. Technically, therefore, the jobs where us girls can make good money are the exact same as the ones where men can make good money.

Of course, in practice, that's not exactly what happens. Most highly paid younger women I know (my demographic, so that's what I know from among my peers) tend to be in law, medicine, PR/marketing, finance or high-commission sales jobs.

A:Going to HK would be the best bet I reckon, especially if you were looking for a church wedding. Chinese weddings are pretty grim IMO - you go to a barren govt dept with souless officials and navigate red tape so some guy can give you a red stamp and a marriage book. You get expensive pictures taken of you both posing in places you'd never go to in everyday life that is somehow supposed to represent your wedding, then a while later it's off to a restaurant where a game show host kind of guy makes sure it's as tacky as possible while the guests eat as fast as they can so they can leave as soon as they finish eating and gave you money. Hell, I'd go to Thailand or the Philippines and get married in Paradise.   -- Stiggs
