Q: What are the small red fruit brochettes called?
In Beijing I see often small brochettes with round fruits, like little red balls. Anyone know what it is? It's sweet and slightly bitter.

A friend told me they are jujubes. They have a texture like an apple, right? Usually they're covered in some kind of hard candy coating, like candied apples. I prefer them plain, but I guess they eat it sort of like candy. They're bitter because they probably aren't ripe yet.

Yes. Tanghulu. Hawthorn berries on a stick with candy coating. The sweet sugar with the slightly bitter berries tastes great. One of my favorite street snacks in winter.
