One common scam happens when somebody tells you to pull their finger. The scam happens in the part where you either pull or don't pull the finger....  give it a shot and see.

The foreigner tax you pay when you rent an apartment. Why is it paid to the police?

Hotwater:

You were definitely scammed here mate! I pay tax on my apartment rental but I go to the rental tax office to pay it.

Its not not a foreigner tax. All rental income should have 8% tax paid on it. Chinese avoid it as they don't have the same registration requirements as foreigners.

Oh I didn't pay either. It turns out my wife is related to the landlord. Fancy that.

The yellow posters advertising ponzi schemes in level one universities paint the best picture of the quality of education in this country.

Even the stoners at the New Zealand technical school panelbeating classes who hotbox their car while listening to Adam Sandler podcasts every morning before class don't fall for those.

Diluting water to make it last longer.

Also don't buy any of the non florescent light bulbs.

Cordless dog leashes are a bit of a scam as well.

SwedKiwi1:

Diluting water? Don't you mean diluting beer/wine/juice/etc with water...? Wouldn't know what they can dilute water with... other water or air perhaps...wink

a common scam is a Chinese person trying to pass as a non-Chinese person online and then having 'hurt feelings' when they are outed.

also posting loaded questions online in order to provoke extreme answers.

these are not so much scams, but childish.

A:I'll give my two cents on the age part. It's not as easy but can definitely be done. I was 21, fresh out of university and landed my first teaching job in china as a homeroom kindergarten teacher on a pretty standard 20,000/month salary. I'm 1 year in now and am still happy. Pretty much all international kindergarten jobs on here want 2 years experience, but many will still accept if you have experience in your home country. With that being said, being white and having a nice looking face is much more of a decision factor in china vs the west, if you can- use it to your advantage. Good luck finding something! -- brinsleym
