Ted, GuilinRat lives there I think, he might give you a better answer than me, I am in the same province but about 3 or 4 hours away by car.

Since most umbrellas here are the collapsible type (not wide enough for my size), I brought back from the States a couple of 60 inches wide beach umbrellas, and they do work better.  For riding my scooter, I brought with me one of those plastic rain protectors in the form of a suit, basically a jacket with a hood and pants.  Works much better than what they use here.

Rainy season is with summer months basically.  Some days it pours, some days it is light rain, and then some days is just an annoying drizzle.  I have never seen a need for scuba diving equipment yet.  And yes, sometimes it is flooding, I see the Yongjiang River raising 13 to 15 feet, and I just stay home (but I do not work).

Crimo:  I wish like hell you were right, if so I will also move there......

I have been to Guilin many times, always during summer months.  I do enjoy rafting downriver, and water fights between rafts.  Sometimes it rains, sometimes it does not, but still get wet on rafts.  Seen many umbrellas there, also white blouses with visible red or blacl bras under. Only once or tops twice saw a very young girl braless, and she had to be under 14 years old.
Are you jesting or serious?.  Or were you also into Baleys in Guilin?  cool  wink

OK,,, crimo was kidding,,,,,,,,,,,been here a month and the women are not braless,, actually they never would be. I've yet to encounter a none padded bra. One thing I did not expect given that Guilin is the same latitude as Miami is the cold. This means the women wear winter coats even indoors. This just looks weird and I'm from the Great White North. So if they aren't even wearing a top or bra, I'd never know.

It is non stop raining. Humid EVERYWHERE. The walls, the floors, etc. Your clothes take around three days to dry and often you need to re wash them because they smell bad.
It also makes the cold harder to bear because it just cuts into you.
I used to love the rain until moving to Guilin.  Made me wish I were living on Dune...

TedDBayer:

I never liked rain, in the Great White North, rain days are cold miserable days, maybe in the odd summer shower is it warm,, I'll take colder and snow, at least it aint wet.
