My wife and I watch seasons of t.v. series during our free time. Does anyone have any suggestions. We do not like the superpower shows, horror shows, or shows with too much violence. We like comedy and mystery.
I don't see eye to eye with Texas cowboys on most things, and you've ruled out most of the TV series I consider good (Game of Thrones, for example).
The most obvious suggestion is Sherlock, which qualifies as both comedy and mystery.
comedy:
how i met your mother (9 seasons)
the big bang theory (7 seasons)
scrubs (9 seasons)
family war deluxe (my absolute favorite)
scifi mystery, define violent... people die sometimes a bit disgusting but not really violent:
Fringe (5 seasons, one of my favorite shows ever)
falling skies
Mystery, riddles:
Sherlock Holmes
Flash forward
horror, action, bro drama:
supernatural

I agree with all of these. Scrubs is my all time favourite, closely followd by Friends, How I met your mother and Big Bang Theory. All of them seem like you can watch a random episode and find it funny, but it's so much better if you watch them all one after the other and get to know the characters and repeat jokes.
Sherlock Holmes is very good too, apparently Chinese people love that sh*t.
I think Breaking Bad is a good one if you've never seen it. Season one is a bit slow as they lay the foundation of the characters and the story line, but it picks up quickly after that.
dom87:
yeah and the ending sucked and makes no sense ;_;
if you loved fringe you might love flash forward too. but to be warned it also has a stupid ending aka cliff hanger because there should be a second season but was cancelt Q_Q
dom87:
oh and i forget if someone likes cliff hanger and weirdo things then LOST is a good idea to watch lul
still dont understand LOST
Rin:
I got half way through Flash Forward, but heard that there wasn't gonna be a next season,so stopped watching it..
Watched the whole of LOST in about two weeks last summer holiday. Loved that show!
Try Dark Angel. It's an oldie but a goodie!
Try this website www.370kan.com it has pretty much every show. They have a chinese and an english page but i cant find the english page. Just use the chinese. It breaks movies into categories , and western tv shows are updated daily, and when they dont have alot of new shows they will throw on complete seasons of older series. They have pretty much everything. The good thing is they have choices of quality of the movies, so if ur internet connection is shitty you can choose a lower quality version of it. And everything has chinese subtitles so your gf can watch with you.
The bad thing is you need to download baidu player or Qvod, all movies have both options. When you choose a movie itll show you a link where the movie should be, it just takes a minute, do it once then your good forever. No spam or shit on your computer, just a straight player download then your set to go!
My Comedy Picks
Modern Family
Family Guy
How I Met Your Mother
The Big bang Theory
Drama for the wife
Grey's Anatomy
The Good Wife
For all family (if no kids are in the family)
Homeland
Hostages (just finished)
The Following
Ended shows that should be seen if you've never seen them - Good for binge watching.
House MD
Dexter (can be a bit bloody)
Breaking Bad
Coming Show
True Detective
Scandinavian:
Yup, not sure if the plot can carry the second season though, It'll start this month so we'll know soon. But can it possibly fail when it has bacon in it?
Based on your criteria, and what both my wife and I enjoyed watching
* Sherlock, the recent BBC series, is really good. Sherlock in a modern setting, good acting, good writing, packed with mysteries and British humor ^^
* Black Books. An irate, misanthropic book shop owner, his good willing employee, and their neighbor. Good quality comedy, if misanthropic.
* The IT Crowd. Comedy, mostly cute.
Maybe quite hard to comprehend for you wife for cultural reasons (many European historical references, British wit, etc.), but pure vintage gold : the whole Blackadder series ^^
dom87:
oh yeah, blackadder is awesome, but for some reason very hard to find in the internet.
if you have a link to the complete seasons i really would appreciate it
The new Nikita, not the 90's version, it has 4 seasons:
http://www.qilumovie.com/film/51233.html
Sherlock Holmes.
3 seasons so far, love it...
I highly reccommend "Mind Your Language." While quite old, it is a very functional comedy. It's basically about an ESL classroom in Britain. I never have watched British shows at all (perhaps I'm missing out) but a friend showed me this and I thought it was hilarious.
If you are going to watch it with a Chinese person, it may have an added benefit. It takes the " ahh, those foreigners" from the perspective of a British person- and one of the students in that classroom is a Chinese. . . Maybe a Chinese person watching it could notice that they technically are foreigners when abroad. xD
THE BLACKLIST, season one is recently finished, classy stuff - get on it.
Doctor Who
Sherlock
IT Crowd
House of Cards
Anger Management
Two and a Half Men
The Big Bang Theory
I agree with Scandinavian and dom87. All of those are nice ones you can watch.
Since you mention comedy and mystery, I would definitely suggest "The Good Wife" on his list. I was skeptical at first when I heard the title, but it's a great series.
In line with that, you can try watching "Suits" (also about lawyers).
Also heard that "Scandal" is also pretty pretty good... Haven't seen more than 3 or 4 episodes. Also about lawyers and politics. Definitely mystery there, don't know if it has comedy.
And one of my all time favorite series "House MD", since you wanted comedy and mystery. Was sad when the series ended though... for a time I was thinking they would be back for another season.
Oh and you can try "White Collar". I haven't watched the last 2 seasons, but it's also comedy and mystery (FBI agent working with a (very very handsome) "former" con man to catch bad guys).
And you can also try "the Mentalist". Heard it's good, and also funny.
Some of the series can be found on tv.sohu.com. No need to download and install anything, but if you want the video to load faster, I think you can choose to install their software.
dom87:
house md is not really a comedy series... dunno whats so funny about it. also has nothing to do with mystery. it is a hospital series that always has the same plot. patient comes in with weird symtomes, get treated, thinks everything is fine then it gets worse, in the last 10 minutes someone figures out what he has and he will be fine. the side story is some love drama between the hospital staff.
therefore even gays anatomy is better
I have got no idea really, I don't watch much tv, just movies, although yeh, Modern Family, yeh, Family Guy, and yeh, The Big Bang Theory, and yeh, Sherlock, even if it was a bit 'amateur dramatics' at times, and that detective gimmick got a little annoying: "Did you pass on the air stewardess's good wishes to your mother in hospital Mr Brewer? You did? Ahh, how did I know? Elementary, you still have wafer crumbs on your cufflinks and the outline of the dildo in your left jacket pocket suggests you didn't have time to return your library book before sharpening your pencil bla, bla, bla, bla, bla....."
i get tired of dealing with the chinese websites for the tv shows, so i download all of them on torrents and watch them, 1337x.org has an excellent selection of tv programs. some old ones for old farts like myself, i recently downloaded all 6 seasons of hogans heroes, 11 seasons of friends, 11 seasons of MASH and some really old ones, little rascals, three stooges, the rifleman and gomer pyle and get smart.
most of the time i download audio books from the site.
person of interest and castle are my viewing selection currently
my students seem to like big bang and doctor who, i was surprised they like doctor who more than any other show, i guess the censors in china would never allow chinese science fiction unless the ccp is still around the future movie. .
ambivalentmace:
forgot to mention the pdf of current magazines from the us that are available, the economist, forbes, fortune, etc.
adult, hobbie and sports magazines also.
Try this site, torrentbutler.eu. There is a good range of movies, TV series and a separate section just for HD and everything can grouped into categories. Well worth a look.
