Things are cheap in China, but I personally feel that sometimes a few things are worth the extra yuan or two, or twenty. What are you willing to spend more money on?

Western food, like a roast or something. They are expensive here, like $20 for a roast that would be $10 back home, but it's worth it.

Oh man! It has been a LONG time since I have had a good roast!!!
Kids education.

Western food
derek:
I'm hard pressed to add to that. Justifying large amounts of beans of almost anything else just doesn't compute for me.
Beer - no
Cell - no
Clothes - no
Restaurant - not often
Household stuff - possibly
Car - no
Badminton racket - ah, that was a little expensive, hope it lasts (Japanese made)
Hockey equipment - Stick and skates were on par with Canadian prices
Things are NOT cheap in China, only cheap for the westerner bringing in High-value currency. Things are INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE in china. Find me any place in the world more expensive for the average worker, bet you can't. (you can also say wages are very low for the average worker) But with anything branded being far more expensive than in the west, you can't say it's cheap in China, what is correct to say and needs to be said is western money due to its high exchange value, buys a LOT of things in China. Is a junky T-shirt selling for $29 in the USA to someone making 3,000 a month? umm, I think not. its 29 rmb for a 3,000 worker here, or more, unless they buy from a factory that happens to sell 1 piece to public, (yeah right) and have the car to get out there, the 100 or so rmb for the petrol, etc etc etc (not happening)
With that being said, I will spend extra rmb on NOTHING unless I must. Like Pepsi max or products in low demand in China so they are hard to find and therefore expensive as they take up valuable space and sell rarely. If I could save a few yuan anywhere so I can have more fun or free stuff as a result, I will. I even buy pepsi max in bulk or water in bulk to save 10 yuan and have a free meal and I smile about it. Even if I buy two from 7-11 its just 5 rmb vs 7 at a local store. I do this and can just give one to a local or give a disabled person 2 rmb and it feels great to make them smile Nothing is better than free things you don't have to work for, because you were smart.
