Q: What is the best advice you have received during your stay in China?
If you had to choose the most useful advice that you have ever received in China, this tip that changed you life and made you eternally grateful to the one who gave you, what would it be?
I would always be thankful to the friend who told me "Do you know that you can order McDonalds online in English?". It saved me from starvation during my first months in China

Always carry tissues,,,BTW and don't eat at MacDonalds, look in the middle of the patty, is it grey?, It's probably 10 years old and what has it been through in that time?
best advice ... stay home during CNY and don't go out alone at night.
Don't ever trust the friendly sounding "hello" from sales people at the market. In most cases it means "hey, you dumb foreigner, come over here, I want to scam you."
Don't believe anyone, no matter what.
I modified that advice. I only trust my wife. Everyone else is a nutjob without a conscience.

Never give money to beggars they are all 'pianzi'
and
Never pay for a tour guide, just follow a large group and listen
Never assume Chinese people can't drink.
and...
Always carry a few red envelopes in your pocket.
Look both ways several times when crossing the road or even while walking and then look down to watch what you step in. You only need to do this if you're foreigner.
Some locals must use the force to get around, one girl I knew would walk diagonally across a busy 6 lane street, while texting on 2 phones and never stop or look.
Never light fireworks on a petrol/gas station forecourt.
A Chinese guy actually once made this suggestion to me.
Do on to others what has been done to you.
If your spit on, spit back.
If your pushed, push back.
If your hit, hit back.
And so on.
"Stay inside if you want to live a longer life."
That advice right there probably just guaranteed at least 10 more years of living.. . .
Patience. And awareness that advance notification times for important issues are often inversely proportional to the level of importance.
Only buy foreign bottled water (e.g Evian, Carrefour), wash your clothes twice (once with washing liquid / powder. once just water), buy a good quality breathing mask, get any changes to your contract in writing (English), and never, ever agree to "accompany with" any pretty young thing who wants to "practice her English": you're about to get scammed... and maybe even drugged / robbed
Don't get into a fight with Chinese guys.
It is ALWAYS your fault no matter the circumstances. You will have misery from the police and/or end up dooking it out with 30 guys with sticks, bottles and knives.....then have to pay them all compensation or wait in prison until it goes to court in several months.
I arrived without any advice at all. I was dumb.
I cant say anyone has really given me any good advice since I started coming here. But I do know what advice to give now.... Read EChinacities before you get on a plane 
I think saving a few bucks and investing it is the best advice for the younger folks that come here.......it can be done... for me there is no return..I am here for life.... can't afford back home...don't piss it all away!!!!

advice given to me..... enjoy the simplistic way of the life we lead ... by my local family, and they are so right ..... so much happier and content than other parts or the family in Hong Kong.... always striving for another dollar....fuck that, I prefer to have another nice dinner and chat to a business confrontation.
Not just tissues..........but Wet wipes etc..., never use bus station bathroom, always use Airport bathroom, everything that involves money is a lie, never give money to a begger for any reason or disability, dont take pushing and shoving personally, or horn honking, dont let anyone cut in line (because this is improving in China as even the chinese are trying to stop it these days).
buy a water filter, and use the Big water bottles that are delivered to your house for only 7 kuai or so. Have a chinese person ask the price as you hide around the corner, or on the phone........especially when renting a room. I know its a hassle but there is always that damn 'foreigner tax' add on..........
