these students are best left for bilingual teachers

Traveler:

Agreed. A bi-lingual teacher, not a book, is what is needed.

The best method if not bilingual is Total Physical Response (TPR), but it should only be used by an experienced and qualified teacher totally familiar with the method.

I don't hold with teaching from books, unless it is either for a large class or mandated by the school. Books give a good structure, i.e. what subjects to teach, when and in what order for the whole duration of a course, but for individual pupils esp one on one, then you need to structure the lessons according to the pupils abilities and interests.

Further if the student has no English at all unless as Traveler says you are experienced in TPR, I would strongly advise a bi-lingual teacher, and even if you ARE TPR experienced bi-lingual teachers will greatly accelerate the learning process.

I agree with Hugh.G.Rection...

Teaching English or any subject would depend on your commitment and a good book really encourages with great influence on the teacher so as the student.

I use Cambridge English books (Kids Box)..It's a great book for starters...it covers all the aspects of TPR in the sense of listening, writing, reading and speaking..

Have them watch English movies and read English books. Pick a book with a lot of words that will be difficult for him and have him look up the definition and have him practice using that word in a sentence. Practice writing, reading, listening and speaking.
