Q: What can be done about schools such as MARON that exploits foreigners.

Maron has a chain  of 10 schools in Shenzhen as well as several other cities in China. They guarantee everything on the contract is legal, but when it it pay time. They bring police to threaten the employees or deport them so they don't have to pay them. What can be done about these illegal school and how can they be reported to the government?

Are you working illegally? If you are, that's probably what's happening to you.

If you aren't, well... you know you can buy police uniforms on the street here? Police, military (all ranks), etc. Call their bluff, and get the actual police involved.

GuilinRaf:

If those clowns are dressing up in police uniforms, they could be in a lot of trouble. Remember just a couple of months ago, a girl was sentenced to prison for posting blog photos of her getting dressed in a police uniform.

If these guys are doing the same , it could be trouble unless the teachers are working illegally.

sounds to me like you got a "you" problem.

a qualified, responsible adult would never stay in that situation.

here's my proof: "They guarantee everything on the contract is legal,"

before applying to schools every responsible adult minded person should first do some research to find out the basic laws when it comes to working and living in china. and they are very simple; you need a  work visa and resident permit (don't forget the expert cert). if upon your arrival to china and the school , i believe they have 30 days to get these docs for you.

my question to you is , why would you sign a contract that  guarantees everything  is legal? i have read a lot of contracts, i don't ever remember one promising that this is legal.  it's like believing a guy that opens with "i'm gonna tell you the truth ok..." whatever follows is sure to be a lie.

so what can we do about schools like that?

1. get qualified

2. develop some good sense while in your home country

3. take the time to do some research (school and general)

4. stay alert (at the first sign that a school isn't legit , leave.)

willstevenson:

I have never seen someone as consistently unhelpful as you are in answering questions.  The asker didn't say that the contract contains the phrase "everything is legal on this contract", but even if it did, I wouldn't be concerned because it's a chinese contract and they are full of vague useless phrases.

You're like a trolling captain hindsight.  Stop assuming you have all the answers, because you don't.  You just write irrelevant common sense phrases that are also condescending.  Get a life.

If you are a legal teacher, you have no problem, and I doubt they would treat you like this. If they do, walk. You should have no problem getting another job.

If you are working illegally, they will treat you like this, and you have no choice but to cop it. You can't blame anyone but yourself.

Actually, Traveller, I'd say - even if he is illegal, he should probably still walk...

Traveler:

True, but he is  probably going to get similar  treatment as an illegal wherever he goes. Many schools seem to set teachers up to be illegal, and then exploit that weakness.

It looks like Smokin' Joe turned from professional boxer into a philosopher. Go back to your boxing career Joe Larry Holmes is still out there somewhere.

My personal preference would be to hire someone to beat them to a pulp... and do the same to their nice shiny BMW/Audi/Mercedes.

Since some people don't seem to see the world the same way I do, you could always have someone discreetly film these 'police', and then post it somewhere very public (Wiebo, Sina, etc). Obviously, have your face blurred... and your body in a different province or country.
