Q: What can I buy a female Chinese friend to say 'thank you'?

I have a Chinese colleague who really has gone above and beyond whenever I have needed any help and has always been there to answer any questions.

I will be leaving my school in the summer holiday and want to get her something really nice as a 'thank you', any thoughts on what is appropriate?

She is mid 30's, husband and 1 child.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Back home I'd opt for flowers and chocolates as the cliche gift but not sure how that would go down in small town China.

Thank you for the ideas, I'll take them on board and make a decision.

Her child is 12 years old, if it was a toddler I could shower them with gifts but what do you buy a 12 year old? I could look into that - good suggestion.

A nice dinner and a gift is winning at the minute.....

I think chocolate is too sweet for Chinese.  I think you can buy them a family tour. All of them can feel your great concern .

not gift....meal is the most suitable in Chinese manner......

1. dinner is fine, but remember to invite her husband and kid(s);

2. lunch. let her decide if she prefers to ask one or two of your follow colleagues to join you

ps: it is not ok to go out alone with a married woman by the standards

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
