I have a Chinese colleague who really has gone above and beyond whenever I have needed any help and has always been there to answer any questions.
I will be leaving my school in the summer holiday and want to get her something really nice as a 'thank you', any thoughts on what is appropriate?
She is mid 30's, husband and 1 child.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Back home I'd opt for flowers and chocolates as the cliche gift but not sure how that would go down in small town China.
what do you think about inviting her to dinner or lunch at your home or some decent place and present her a gift and tell her you are really grateful for her help in china ,may be this will help ...
Buy some valuable toys for her child.She and her family will all be pleased.Remember she can only have a child.
Thank you for the ideas, I'll take them on board and make a decision.
Her child is 12 years old, if it was a toddler I could shower them with gifts but what do you buy a 12 year old? I could look into that - good suggestion.
A nice dinner and a gift is winning at the minute.....
philbravery:
face creams or other skin care products like sheep's cream or good fish oil tablets
Thats what my wife does for her good friends
I think chocolate is too sweet for Chinese. I think you can buy them a family tour. All of them can feel your great concern .
not gift....meal is the most suitable in Chinese manner......
1. dinner is fine, but remember to invite her husband and kid(s);
2. lunch. let her decide if she prefers to ask one or two of your follow colleagues to join you
ps: it is not ok to go out alone with a married woman by the standards
