Q: 'What can I do for you?'

Any body else get this from their Chinese gf, partner, wife?

Your sick - what can I do for you?

Cup of tea, three sugars - no.

What can I do for you?

DON'T ASK ME WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR ME!

I can't quite put my finger on it but it annoys the hell out of me. I'm thinking it's selfish i.e. ok, confirmation, nothing I can do, so I'll do my stuff and not have to share a further thought for you. Further, in the West say, you would ask can I do this or that, how about this or that, consideration is shown and you show how far you would go to make you feel comfortable, ending in 'anything just ask ok'.

If they ask me what they can do for me, my ready answer is just give me your American Express platinum card and let's go shopping together for one short hour.
