Q: What Chinese car would you get?

Lets say you were in the market for buying a car. New or second hand, though you could only chose between cars made by the Chinese car brands. What would you pick, Emgrand, QQ, BYD, Great Wall etc.

My own pick would be a Hongqi CA72 if one could be found in good condition, or if it should be more modern, a BYD S6

Think looks, image & style over quality and safety.

There was a Lexus in my apartment parking lot. I thought it was almost perfect. It had a hanging front bumper, three flat tires and some cracked windows and almost an inch of dust on it. It was almost perfect, what else could happen to it? Too bad it was white and not black, that would make it perfect.

I see the Google electric car on sale at home, $6000, no thanks. My lawn tractor would be better.

Hongqi is the best, but maybe it's kind of expensive. As for the others, you could try Chery or Geely.

I wanted to get a rickshaw with a souped up hot Chinese babe to pull it. I don't know why China doesn't have them any more. They would solve the energy crisis, beat that green technology. If they brought then back, they'd be import of the year in no time at home. I can see it now, a garage full, the luxury model pulled by something in a black dress and heels, the hotrod pulled by a pair of twins in shorts, the off road rickshaw pulled by something covered in mud, the convertible - everything topless,  the daily driver: just a plain Jane but dependable.

Scandinavian:

...you are forgetting that even Chinese babes have a significant amount of exhaust. :)

I'd use the stretched rickshaw to neutralize the exhaust, as an added bonus it would keep the butt and legs in full view.

"Think looks, image & style over quality and safety."

For me, practicality ruled over all of those when I bought my BYD F0.  The purchase price was cheap enough, the fuel economy is obviously pretty awesome, and the diminutive size makes it ideal for urban usage.  I can park and maneuver this thing in all but the tightest situations, and can still take it on the highway when I need to.  Style...eh it's ok, I mean they did lift it directly from a Toyota design smiley

Quality and Safety have yet to be determined.

manasyt:

You bought it new? I was looking at used ones online...The Geely Panda thingy looks cool haha...and it says its one of the safest Chinese cars, used one goes for 30-40k.

cooter:

Yep, bought it new.  I looked at a few examples of used cars, and just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger.  Chinese people are ROUGH on their cars.  FWIW, the sales price for my car, brand new, was under 35kafter negotiations.  After adding in taxes and the first year's insurance premium, the total was right under 40k.  The used cars I looked at weren't much different in price....so buying new made sense to me.

I want the one that looks like a 1069 Dodge Charger. You know, the coke bottle body style? Hopefully the engine would be somewhat larger than 2 liters.

Scandinavian:

the 1069 Charger, that is a horse driven cart, right ?

What about the new Geely Cross thing? Very cheap, not sure about the quality

This looks a little like an early 2000's Saxo.

I'd go for a BYD S6, looks like a Lexus and the interior looks rather nice too.

Right. You can also easily re-badge it...... no

Me? Buy one of those moving death traps?  I don't think so....

I would never get a Chinese car.

Here's a BMW in the exact same crash test...

Sidicas:

Yes, the Chinese car crumples so much that the crash test dummy will hit his head on the other vehicle. ... And people thought they didn't need to wear helmets while driving! Fortunately he'd never feel that part because he'd already be dead before then. This is due to having his entire spinal column shattered by the engine pushing deep into his "personal space".
