Q: What cities do you think have the strongest anti-foreigner sentiment?
Before my mom got to Zibo (in Shandong province) to work, my brother had mentioned that it's anti-foreigner inclinations were a bit stronger than the average lower tiered city. This was recently proven by a lot of drama at a train station where cab driver after driver refused to take her home at the taxi queue (with lots of yelling) .

I don't know. I've only ever encountered friendly Chinese.
Sometimes driver refuse to take you it happened to me a lot too.. Actually it's not just foreigner.
But some taxi driver they don't wanna take them coz they don't understand them and its hard to communicate, the driver told me,
i remember one time there were 5 or 6 foreigner try to get a taxi, nobody want s to take them because they don't speak chinese and they have an english version map . So I went up there and helped, i told the driver where they wanna go and the driver was happy to take them.

This was a very systemized place though. They have a line at the train station and each would-be passenger waits to get to the front of the line. Once at the front of the line the passenger gets into the cab and goes on their merry little way. However, when my mom got to the front multiple drivers just shook their heads at her, locked their doors, and/or yelled at her in incomprehensible Chinese. I don't mean soft voice either, they were literally yelling. Meanwhile 50 some Chinese people all stared at the scene playing out. The guard who was responsible for the line started yelling at my mom and the drivers to try and move the line along as my mom was now making everyone wait because the cars behind the ones that should be taking her home refused. Finally another person she didn't even know got in the car with her and dropped her off at her place before they went to their home. This was not just standard stubbornness that you see on the street when they turn down doing their job (with the person who helped her having another long/loud argument with the driver the whole way home).

I know, they just don't do their job, it's everywhere, sometimes even I get very frustrated . I think it's because they are unhappy about their salary and they just don't care. Just try not let them ruin your day because they are very pathetic already. Next time you can try to ask for help, I hope there will be good people help you. If not, you can call and book a taxi , its 24 hours and free , they will only pick you up no matter how many people want it no matter how bad the weather is. number : 62580000
Cab drivers in general can be more than a little annoying. Whether they don't take you because of the language issue, because you are a foreigner, or because it is rush hour and they don't want to go so far out, it happens everywhere, even in Beijing and Shanghai. I've been to a lot of cities in China, and have not really found an entire "city" that is anti-foreigner. I've encountered more curiosity than animosity. I'm sorry about your mother's experience, it happens. Hopefully, it will get better from there on out.
i have seen taxi drivers refuse to take locals and expats i think its where you are going i have had many taxis say no and also a lot that were happy to take me so i dont think its just a foreigner thing
