Q: What colour means 'empty cab' in your town?
In Nanning where I live it's red, but when I go to Yulin, my wife's hometown, it's green. That's daft, right?

here in shanghai, you can find both, green or red. different companies cars have own light signs. so some light in green, others in red. bot when car is occupied, the sign light goes off. simple

A few days ago I arrived in Qingdao, here it's red. I let several empty cabs drive right past me before realizing. Where I live in Wuhan it's green. There's also the issue of the occupied cab. In some places they go from green to red, in others the light just goes off. Confusing
While usually it's green for available, and red for occupied... there's also a sick yellow/green which means they've got something else going on.. technically, it's 'paused'.
I think the light going out doesn't help... cos what if it's broken? (I've seen that a few times here).

that's when someone has booked the taxi from some apps on cell phones. That's why the driver looks so silly trying to find who ordered the taxi when there are many people waving over.
It's red where I am in Xinjiang but that doesn't mean you can't give it a wave. It's common practice for the driver to pick up as many as he/she wants. They must have a system for who pays for what but that doesn't mean there's never an argument.
