Rakifi, this question is going to be determined by locality more than anything.  RMB 30,000 per month in Beijing might be middle class while RMB 10,000 in the Dong Bei might be middle class.  Because of the disparity of incomes in China, and for most things, of housing, etc., etc., the locality will greatly influence this determination.  All of that being said, perhaps you might tell us what city or what part of the country you have in mind, please.

Rakifi:

Good point 981. I guess to rephrase my question, what is "middle class" in tier 1 cities (Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen); Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities as well.

I agree. It is going to be different all over China. And when the bubble bursts the midle class will disappear in less than 2 years.

A:Chinese are generally pretty tolerant friendly and accepting whatever foreigners do.  I spent 15 years in China but I wouldn't say there are that many don'ts....Don't assume that many people speak English though and learn some Chinese. Don't speak much about politics unless you want to praise Chinese system.  -- Natalie363
