Q: What common warnings were you given by family/friends before coming to China?

be aware of cheap, treacherous product and keep out of reach of dirty things
Keep my mouth shut or I'll get locked up in a communist prison.
I haven't told my family yet that I'm doing this, except my niece, and I've told only a few friends. For precisely this reason. I don't want to spend the next 10 months listening to "advice" of what to do and not to do. My mom is going to freak, I'm sure. She will be telling me to keep my mouth shut, or I'll go to jail and no one will ever hear from me again. She'll tell me to hop the next plane if I even get the sniffles. I'm not looking forward to telling them. Although their advice might be good for a laugh.
My grandfather told me to watch out, some guy will want to date me just to come live in America. I had to hold back a laugh.
