Q: What did you expect China to be like before you got here?
I expected my girl is waiting for me at Shenyang Airport, before my arrival to China!
Less modern, fewer cars. I'm shocked by how modern even my non-tier city is. 1 KFC and cars everywhere.
to be something like films... communist.. closed.... peoples army...

Also, that "dada-dadada da da da daaaa" stereotypical music. You know the one I'm talking about.

Haven't been able to get that tune out of my mind since 2006....
Dunno but I was shocked by the amount of kids walking around with mobile phones. Kids in prams with headsets playing Tetris on the iPhones.
In actual fact I expected it to be much more like California, but that's what happens when you book your flight drunk on vodka.
I had no expectations, but the sheer amount of eye candy roaming around (everywhere but Wuhan) was a really pleasant surprise.
I expected to just turn around every corner and find cheap things everywhere...
Yap, that wasn't the case...
I thought China would be a developing third world country. I didn't expect all the new buildings. There still is lots of areas of older buildings and small run down alleys, but I really did expect to see ricshaws for people.
I lived in Isan for five years before coming to the MK (except for a trip to Taiwan many years ago), so the only thing that really surprised me about this place was the incredible amount of people here!
I would not be surprised if there were more people in Shenzhen than in the whole of Isan!
Wow, overpopulation became a lot less abstract for me...
I only had the stories of my colleagues from 10 years ago in China to go on...so I was surprised when I arrived...and I did not have the luxury of this site before I came to China.
I hated it here with a passion for the first few months but then it grew on me..ok it was the women.
People told me China was dirty and full of scammers and cheap women...well the women are NOT cheap but the rest was right.
In closing I must agree with XpatJohn..it took me a long time to not be distracted by the hordes of beautiful Chinese girls everywhere...especially when it got hot out.
