Western medias are right, there is something really wrong with China, but it's not the government who never bothered me at all (local officials even invited me to dinners, gave me countless hongbao/gifts, and we had good laughs after a few cups of baijiu as I can speak putonghua), the common folks however...
That adding two numbers together e.g. 20 + 30 is not something one should do without the help of, at the bare minimum, electronic aids. Such mathematical complexity requires the use of at least a calculator but more advanced equipment such as an abacus is always preferable. Once the calculation has been carried out successful using suitable equipment, it should be rechecked twice and referred to the supervisor for confirmation.

Never take no for an answer? That is mostly for administrative tasks or stuff you need done. Don't assume a person is going to be "doing something" but check up constantly to push them and make them put you first so you stop bugging them.
