A picture is usually drawn, sketched, printed etc. A photograph is an image that is captured with a recording device such as a camera or video camera. Duh!

"Photo" comes from Greek and means "drawing with light" A photograph is made by projecting rays of light onto a surface that can capture them (be it analog or digital)

A picture isn't just art.  We always 'take a picture'.  A picture also means a photo.

a picture is an image of something or somebody. A photo is a picture that is derived from a camera.
