What were you thinking of China before coming here and what you found different to your perception once you got in?
I thought they are socialist, but I think they're closer to extreme capitalist.
Well, here is a list:
- I thought a lot more people knew martial arts - Almost nobody does...
- I thought they were a lot more mystical, mysterious but honest, - But a lot have the depth of a kiddy pool and lie through their teeth
- I thought they were more civilized but less developed - Wrong on the first guess part
- I thought the food would be like the Chinese food back home - Made much better here when you find a good restaurant
- I thought everything would be much cheaper - It's not... you are paying for the quality... and some things like a car of equal or almost value back home costs 50-100% more here in China.
I thought the food would be good.
I was not expecting bones with everything.
Before coming and during the first 24 hours of my first visit, I was told Chinese people are warm and welcoming to foreigners.
-I thought they would know more about their long history, but it seems they learn from soap opera historical drama...not books.
-I thought they like tea (I live in DongBei) but they drink beer like fish
-I thought I'd see more police, I don't.
-I thought the young people would be politically active, or at least interested in freedom.
-I thought they'd respect the elderly...not really
-I thought the pollution would be better
-I thought Duck Head would be disgusting, I ate it, now I love them.
royceH:
That's because all the police are out here in Xinjiang.
You ate a duck's head? And now you love duck heads...Woah! I reckon that's extreme. Still...Cool!
I thought people would be small worker bees and not lazy-arses
The Chinese who came to Singapore to work are hardworking, wanting to learn. Here, they are all opportunists, seeking an easy buck. They will lie, beg, sell their souls for money. I never thought they'd be that money crazed. I was wrong.
thefidu881:
Money is important and yes many worship money. Even the most patriotic Americans sell their souls for money. Don't they ?
Just read the question from Hulk and the data reveals the facts. Chinese do give much more heed to money and sometimes may consider it lawful.I thought Chinese people would all be short, eat rice all the time, and all look the same. I also didn't believe Chinese (Asians, in fact) women were attractive in any way.
Of course I was wrong, wrong, wrong and wrong!
Before arriving I was told all Chinese university students were hard working - i have only found this to be partially true, and only in some universities
