Q: What to do about a undelivered package from the USA?

My mother sent me a package three months ago, today. I have the tracking number and it seems that neither the states or China has any clue about it. Neither of the websites have been updated with any information but that it was shipped on 6/6/2014. What should I do to ensure it is delivered to me?

Put in an insurance claim, the package will show up the next day.

TedDBayer:

It happened to me, either it's lost or it will show up. An airmail small packet generally gets delivered from home to another civilized country in 10 days, surface mail 3 months, China never got that memo, Xpress or courier work well but are expensive.

Depending on the value of the contents of the package, it might be gone: some Chinese post officials have sticky fingers.

I sent a package, by post, recently to a friend in China - it took 10 days to arrive.

I wrote the contents clearly on the outside as well as:

The address of the recipient in Chinese and english

  The recipients contact phone number

  My name and address

I tracked the package as far as could into China.

BUT

I also had a DHL package that took 3 months to arrive when i was in China for the first time. Customs wanted me to pay tax on the contents - all old/not new books of teaching materials. (I refused to do that) Thankfully, again, I had a full list of contents and everything arrived safely, but not until i was complete p***ed o** at the package traveling between Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Any other post that i need to receive within China, i ask a local friend if i can use their address to avoid any loss.

Well it's an old wooden bow from the states. no string and no arrows. Just a piece of wood. It has been three months to this day.

"Well it's an old wooden bow from the states. no string and no arrows. Just a piece of wood."

A piece of wood that I guess would be recognisable as a bow even without the string fitted? My guess would be that it has been confiscated at China customs. Basically you've shipped a potentially lethal weapon into China, probably without declaring it.

I wouldn't hold out much hope if I was you. Sorry.

:

Bows are not illegal in China. I'm actually working with a company who produces them. Also my wife called customs and anything that is "rejected" is sent back, not confiscated.

On that, how can you declare it or even deal with customs besides a phone call and them telling you that it takes seven days for them to process a package?

Did your mum address it in English or Chinese?

I'm betting english with american style address format. If that is the case then it has probably gone into the too hard basket AKA thrown in the corner until someone can figure out the gibberish (until it is forgotten and someone else's problem).

Or of course, it was opened and has since been sold on ebay/taobao. In any case don't expect to receive it and you won't be disappointed.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change student visa to labourer one is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
