Q: What do Chinese athletes do after they retire?
We all know that many athletes/sports players go on to coaching roles or become panelists or commentators or whatever, but does this happen much in China? Are they just chewed up and spat out by the machine? I've heard about some becoming street beggars which was really upsetting.
If they don't get marketing deals I think they're pretty much F'ed, since they've spent their whole lives training for one thing and have few other skills.
Here's the homeless story btw:

They probably eat, sleep, drink and celebrate all the money they have and medals they've achieved. A lot of the athletes such as the olympic diver is rolling in the dough!

A one time pay out of $31k per gold isn't that much. Especially if we consider that they don't get a lot in endorsement deals and have no real skills beyond whatever there sport was.
With no remaining marketable skills most Chinese athletes are sold to the glue factory by the state.
Get a hotel job while they still have a recognizable face.
