Q: What do Chinese people think of Jackie Chan?

When I was back home watching Jackie Chan movies I was always under the impression he was a nice, polite guy with a since of humor. Since coming here and reading Asian news on a regular basis, I've come to learn that he's a bit of a nasty piece of work, regarding various comments, adultery and certain political leanings. What about the Chinese/Hong Kongers? do they see him as a great ambassador for the country's culture/image/film industry, or just a big tool?

Depend on how much a person knows about him. Chinese population is maybe 1.4 billion, hence it must be difficult to have a summary of everyone's opinions, right?

While some rich Chinese people travel to HK on holidays, attend Jackie Chen or his son's ceremonies, there are also lots of Chinese people who never afforded the premium TV fee, which means very restricted choices of TV programs available. They might have only watched one or two movies by Jackie Chen, let alone knowing about his gossips.

If two people share the same culture background, are they supposed to react similarly to one same thing? If anyone has enough conscience as a responsible human being in modern age, has enough empathy for the Chinese people suffering in poverty and oppression, and has enough sense of shame , why would their feelings be different about  his adultery, his gossip,he and his son "dating" the same actress?

Don't really feel like to spend any second thinking about him.  Tool or not, I don't know. Who can use this tool anyway? Does Jackie Chen enjoy being a tool? Isn't it all about money?  But obviously no personal admiration at all.  Ambassador for the country's culture/image/film industry? Is he? What kind of image is he presenting to the world?

STEVENXU:

I have to say u are totally wrong, 99% Chinese love Jackie Chan and his movies, and I trust 99% Chinese watched most of his movies by premium TV, it is quite cheap for premium TV in China and every one can afford to it , less 200 RMB per year, but why so does many Chinese hate Jackie Chan? coz Jackie Chan wanna be the spokeman of' Canon Camera (Japanese brand), so....
