I have heard reports that some take up to 60% of the wage. Others say they only take a "one time" fee amounting to one month's salary.

In the latter case, they often deliberately send an unqualified person that will only last until the L visa runs out. Then they can get several "one time" fees in the same year for the same job.

In general, I believe recruiters to be the scum of the earth as far as China's teaching industry is concerned. That includes whether Chinese or foreign - trust none of them.

Yeah never use them as your real self, or real name, never use your real picture, just use a fake resume and get the address of the company and apply in person.

I'm pretty sure they get the a piece of your monthly salary.  A lot of the companies that you work for will send the payment to the recruiter agency and then they will send you your cut.

I can tell you how it works perfectly:

Do you read all those recruiter ads that state: Probation for 2 months?

SO here's how it works for one recruiter: https://www.findworkabroad.com/

The Salary is 10,000 RMB for 2 months, and 12,000 RMB after your probational period is over.

So that 4000 RMB was paid to the recruiter and they will never tell you that, they cover it up by allowing the company to call it: "Probation period" and they say: NO Fee's!, such a gag..

Now if you were to walk in and apply in person then you wouldn't lose the 4000 RMB.

I can teach you a trick, plan in advance about 3 months, target some good companies or schools, use the recruiter and apply with a fake resume,  after they setup an interview date they will give you the address of that school (Which is your main goal) and you can save the address and apply later when there's another open spot someday, hey finding a good company or school isn't easy, even finding their hiding place is difficult sometimes. So this method will help you find all the schools you need.

So let the recruiter work for you.

It never fails, this method has worked for lots of my friends, because in China, we really don't know where all these schools or companies are at, unless they post online themselves. There could be one a mile from you and you never even knew or seen it.

So don't let the recruiter get your money, just use them to get the address of the school and apply a few days or weeks later, if they ask: How did you hear about us? Me: oh, I walked passed here a lot and saw your school, or a friend told me last year.

Recruiters a business that should never have been, lazy companies only need to post here themselves directly.

I have also used a recruiter to set up an interview with the company for me. Once in the interview, I asked to see the accommodations that I would be living in. I met a guy, and he showed me the living spaces. I flat out told him that I liked the university, but they would have to employ me directly, sans agent. He put me in contact with the administration, I stopped answering the recruiter's calls, and the job was great.

The same concept applies...use the recruiter to get you in contact with the uni. After that--why pay the scumbag?

Some gets a one time fee, somes takes half yer monthly pay. You know when they offer you 7k for 25 to 30 hours in Beijing, they's taking a big ol bite outta youse evry moon. Bet yer bottom dollar if yer contract is with the recruiter, theys takin 50% or more of everything.

Just never sign with a recruiter directly.

RachelDiD:

Yep. I've seen recruiter contracts. One English version, that was essentially an unaltered contract from the school. And the (binding) Chinese version, that stated that the signee agreed to give up 5000rmb of their monthly salary to the agent. Scum of the earth.
