Green card?  As in a permenant visa?  Rumor has it that if you have worked here for over 10 years you are eligible.  Or, if you own a company that invests at least US$5 million, you can get 1.

However, after 5 years, I have yet to actually hear anyone who is able to get more than a 2 year visa.

And as far as a permenant work permit, to my knowledge, there is no such thing.

A few people here in Dongguan have had theirs, they have lived and worked here on concurrent Z visas/work permits for 10 years, they have now been given a 5 year residence permit. It is out there and for real, just need to bide your time!

The Green card is like Bigfoot. You read about it, but no one has actually seen one.

Thumbs down. Guess someone aint happy with our candor. Would be nice if in addition to giving us the thumbs down they would tell us "how" (if?) we are wrong?

If you are posted here for a company (working), get a Z visa.

If you are doing business (looking for export opportunities etc.) get an F visa. Some people try to get an L visa (Tourist, easier to get) but if you are  ever audited in the US the IRS trys to say you weren't conducting business therefore all your expenses are disallowed.

Yeah......, you can get China' green card' through marriage. but not worth anyway...

Anyway, getting one is not bad because it saves a lot time to getting visas and paying fees...

For getting the 10 year residence permit (green card) for being married to a local is: 5 years married and 5 years in China. If you can show this then you get it... or at least go the the next stage.

Though you have to be married 5 years, and lived in china married for 5 years, must have spent at least 9 months every year over that time,

To be married 5 years is fair, or even longer but to have to stay in china 5 years is NOT, most of us have to travel in and out of china all the time, to make a living.

And you must apply from which city your spouse is from.

Good luck.

Xpat.John:

I tried this, just last week here in Guangzhou. I have been married to a Chinese woman for almost 8 years now and I have been in China for over 5 years about 98% of the time. The visa officers basically told me the best I could get was a 1 year visa if the marriage was done here in China. Or I could get a 2 year visa if I was over the age of 60. But I got nothing but blank stares whenever I asked about the mythical 5 or 10 year visa.

If you're thick enough to think China has green cards cause the US has them just stay home.

bennyfulltrack:

You don't know what you are talking about. You better do some homework first! I know personal people who have a Chinese green card. This is not a myth at all !

You need to find someone to hire you in China first. They will send you an invitation letter, you visit the Chinese embassy in your home country and apply for a Z Visa. If they grant you one, you move to China. You will need to go to the PSB and get a residence permit asap.
