Either you leave it to the next tenant, you sell on the internet (With title : "Moving back home and what to sell") or you give it your Ayi if you have one.
Whatever fits your bill can be done.
Bye!
I do not wish to be a smart ass, but there is very little you could do with unwanted items AFTER you move back home. Now, BEFORE you move, you could do a trillion things with them. From selling it to giving it away, trading them for things you may want, etc.
Wait until you see the old man/woman that digs though the trash daily hoping to find something to sell and offer the stuff to him/her.
Leave your door open one night and watch them disappear.
There are many people who roam most neigbourhoods buying all maner of things. The locals will know who they are. When my Mrs sold her appartment (or had it resumed for development) she sold lots of things. In saying that she didn't get a real lot for them. She also gave a lot of stuff to relos etc.
Sell it to other expats on English language sites. There are tons of new foreigners arriving everyday who often need exactly the stuff you are selling, or people who have been here for a bit looking for deals.
Beds do NOT sell well, so if you have one and you are trying to sell it, go on the cheap side. Even if you spent 2000rmb on a comfortable bed, don't expect much for it. Cut your losses and get whatever you can for it. Selling it for 400rmb is better than leaving it behind.
Electric bikes, appliances (especially ovens and clothes dryers), video games, and stuff like that go pretty quick.
Don't expect to make back your money, the stuff is used, so get whatever you can. People will buy it if the price is right. But nothing is more annoying than people selling stuff like "Electric bike, used for 2 years, bought for 3000rmb, now selling for 2800rmb".
Some good hints for people coming here: Often, if you find a decent place but need some new stuff, a lot of times the landlord will let you buy some stuff and deduct it from the rent. Maybe not all, but they will often discount a month to cover some things. For example, when I got my place, the bed sucked, so my landlord let me get one and cut my rent by 1000rmb for the cost. I got a decent Ikea bed for 1700 - so 700kuai for what's given me now 2 years of good sleep is fine.
It's all about the art of the deal. If you offer to buy something nice (like a large flat TV), ask for a few months discount rent, but you'll pay a little more so they can keep it, they'll usually go for it. I picked up a 42" flat screen (from an expat moving back home) for 4000, lanlord discounted me 2500 for rent, so I get a big tv for 1500. Had it for over a year now, works great, but it's part of the apartment now. I could have bought a new one for much more and then had to deal with shipping/selling it later, but this worked out for me in my case. I was happy with the deal, my landlord got a big tv for the apartment for cheap, and I don't mind paying a little extra to have things I want and use everyday.
