Q: What to do in Seoul ?

On my flight home I have a massive layover in Seoul. Will they just let me hangout in the airport overnight or is there some place cheap and close to crash for about 6 hours? Can I use RMB, US $, or do I need to take Korean cash? Unfortunately when I came here I had set up an electronic travelers check system thinking it would be the safest and easiest method to use. Unbeknownst to me the (UK based) payment system was later banded in America. I am planning on leaving my Chinese bank card here with my wife since my last wages won’t be paid until mid-August. Needless to say it hasn’t made my trip home all that easy. Live and learn :-/

6 hours is not much. The trip to downtown Seoul is at least an hour. If you're lucky you could get a good round of Korean BBQ.

In Seoul you can pay with international cards in most places. Unionpay does work (at least I know I've gotten cash from one of mine at the airport)

The airport has pretty speedy unrestricted free wifi !

Actually my layover is all night, but I figure if I am lucky I will sleep 6 hours. I am traveling alone, unfortunately with no western credit cards. Not sure if it is worth booking a hotel for 6 hours of sleep and not that interested in rolling around town solo with carry-on bag and computer bag. How far from the airport does one need to go to get a cheap safe hotel and is English going to get me around town easily? If the internet wasn’t sucking serious ass, I could find some answers on my own, but ….. I have several weeks so maybe I can get some answers on my own before then.

Go to 7 Eleven, buy a bottle of makkollI (Korean Rice wine, nothing like baiju, trust me, tasty stuff) and some gimbop (Korean sushi roll) and just sit in the plastic chairs they have outside (all 711s have them in Korea) and watch The people go by.  Or go To Yangson station on line 1. There is a big electronics market there. or go to Iteawon and get a tranny on Hooker Hill. There are some cool bars there, and a bathhouse You can sleep at for about $8.

The 7-11 sounds like a good way to kill several hours if it isn’t raining. I don’t think staying in a $ 8.00 hotel seems really prudent though. So I will need American dollars? I have two $100 bills that picked up in my quaint 4th tier hamlet’s "Bank of China" that seem to me suspect, so I will wait until I get to Beijing before getting any more. There will be no trouble getting around with English?

Beautifulsoup:

RtthaNgellester need Korean Won, or a Visa or Master card. The ATM's will take your Union pay card. Last I checked The exchange at the airport has a low fee. USD are useless except to exchange.
