For teaching jobs it's not much of an issue because I know what I can make at most places and what most places should be offering.
Lately though I've been applying at some non teaching jobs and when I tell them what my salary at my last job was and ideally I want something close to that I end up getting a weird look and then no phone call back. I think I'm asking for too much money but no one seems to tell me what they are willing to offer and they don't try to make me an offer at a lesser payscale.
What's the correct way to answer this question. I recently I thought about responding with "well what do you normally offer for this position" as a way to kind of dodge the question and put the ball back in the court. But I'm not sure if that comes across as rude.
There is a formula I use that might help you
Firstly are you applying for a job that requires your foreigner abilities? (language)
secondly what would you get paid to do the same job in your home country.
basically the equivalent .of what you get at home but in Yuan plus what your special skill is worth (meaning Language ) so double it
just make sure you can back your abilities
the more supporting evidence you provide the better your chances
you are welcome to pm me if you want
good luck
