KTV, massage, getting blitzed, dating locals, curling up with a book, retreating into dvd's, reading news from home online, swimming in polluted waters, eating cheese and bread (if you are lucky), finding expat bars or hanging with locals?
We are all here to work, but after enough time here, the choices for entertaiment get thin and old. Of course this is assuming you don't speak fluent Mandarin.
How do you deal with boredom?
Dude, I have never feel bored in China, I alwyas have a combination of those activities listed by you, plus a few others that will make me blush if stated in public.
Last night, for example, I was watching a DVD at home when my phone rang, a friend from Australia whose wife works until 11 pm called to meet and share a few beers. I went, and the waitress was real friendly and wanted to practice English. So, both him and me had a lot of fun, learned a few words of Mandarin, and have a date for next week end to be shown the "local attractions".
I do guess we ExPats living in China have a very hard life here !
-drinking with Chinese friends (if I could find an expat I care to be around then I'd happily drink with them)
-tourism
-traveling
-people watching
-visiting friends and family
-Sometimes a day of tv is always good
-blogging
-language learning
and so on. I usually don't have enough time in the day for all the things that interest me so i stay up until 4am many nights like a weirdo.
That's great for all of you.....I envy your long list of interests....
As for me, it's taking care of my child since 8am till 7:30pm....Then I am too exhausted to go out or do anything else, so basically, it's either playing with my Wii, or watching a DVD......
Enjoy all your free time.....I should have enjoyed more before my child comes....:(
A lot of eating at restaurants, practicing Chinese online, movies/Youtube , reading blogs , reading CNN & BBC online to keep up with world events/events back home, rsearching recipes for good Chinese dishes I've had
A normal night might consist of a quiet cheap dinner, followed by a walk with some Chinese friends or a movie at home then chillin' out on the computer.
A crazy night would consist of a big dinner, then a bar, followed by another "supper".
On weekends I like to either go travelling somewhere with, chill out downtown and go to a cafe and smoke and drink tea all day. Usually have dinner with foreign or Chinese friends.
Making friends, language learning and dating locals falls into all of my lifestyle.
-hanging out with friends
-surfing online
-dancing at dance club practice once or twice a week
-eating cake, chocolate, cheese flavored pringles, fried rice or drinking milk tea
-going into the city to see the night market

-I was learning to play the guzheng, but now the door is locked.
-I'm planning on going to Tokyo during spring festival, and next semester I want to travel on the weekends.
-sleeping in (when I can)
-playing games with the kids at the local training center (for decent pay, of course)
-someday I hope to date a local, but it hasn't happened yet

First of all, the font went wonky when I posted it, I didn't do it on purpose. Second of all, why do you care? You went out of your way to say something?
Just taking a walk down the street. With an open mind, a sense of adventure, and a willingness to make an possible ass of yourself... there is always fun to be had somewhere.
Daytime it is usually a bit of a walk around, often teamed with a bot of exercise for the old body in one of the nearby parks and a trip to a market for some snacks and supplies. I like DaBen have a sense of adventure and there is always something to pique my curiosity. The net keeps me in touch with sports, news and friends and I read a lot. Eating is also an enjoyment whether home, on the street or in a resturant. Travel when I can and still many years of visiting here before I complete my list of places i want to see.
