Disclaimer: The obvious answer is find a drink with the highest percentage of alcohol you can find.
But apart from that, when you've got work at 9am the next morning and that's not a [good] option, what do you all do to unwind?
Let's exchange secrets ...
I usually go shopping and have a beer in some wayward shop, no use stressing, I just don't think stressing about it, is worth it
go for a run or do something active. bad days in China can happen a lot and you gotta just take them as they come. if you don't, you'll go crazy.
I join the old ladies dancing the in city squares. Making a complete ass of myself, let's me forget where I am. And with being surrounded by a bunch of chuckling old lady, you can't help but smile. On real rough days, I'll force the audience to join in as well.
If I can, I will go to bed early and try again the next day. A good nights sleep does wonders for me!
Speak to country mates, read my domestic news. Zone out,,,
Immerse myself in Western cultural stuff. Read Western websites, watch my Western movies. Hearing well-spoken English on TV does wonders for me.
Order milk tea with black pearls and coconut jelly at Coco, hang-out with the husband at the park right across where we live and we read bible stories on odb.org together right before we sleep... helps a lot
I find small puppies to kick. Pinching babies helps too. If none of those are available, I look for old women to push off of docks.
papa johns for pizza and beer, or pizza hut for pasta and beer
Actually, I watch Eddie Izzard videos and laugh until I can't breathe. Then I play them again.
Aside from drinking....a good pizza hut pig out followed by a couple of movies (usually old favorites to cheer me up).
Usually I cry for a little, I usually feel better afterwards. Then I just want to hang out with friends, even if we're only watching tv in my apartment. Oh, and something delicious to eat, like ice cream or cake.
I'm getting into all these new "expats" that have joined the site.... I now find myself picking out a good answer from someone like mattaya and just try and break down the answer. Just trying to figure out what my fellow American meant exactly and why those particular words were chosen (and I mean really trying to picture a master of the English language chosing to use these words on purpose). My brain gets so worn out trying to do this, that I completely forget about the bad Chinese day.
In the long run, it will probally cause an aneurysm...
