Q: What do you drink besides beer ?
I can drink the beer here but what else. I've tried the rice wine because I can read the label. I no like. I have seen Baileys once or twice, but I like Carolans way better. I no see. I see red wine and i like white about 3 in sweetness. I go into stores and see walls of booze in boxes, wood, pottery. I have no idea what I'm looking at , probably all rice wine. I'm going to ship some home because i'll be stripping the paint off my '38 soon. But whats good to drink here and how do I find it? Will I go blind from drinking rice wine?
I like the local red wine, personally, but I don't know if you can get it where you are.

Your dubiousness is entirely understandable, but I'm serious. There's some crap but some of the cabernets produced out here in Xinjiang are surprisingly good; it took us a few weeks to find half a dozen drinkable labels. I've been told that the grape-growing conditions here are (in summer) some of the best you'll find, so I guess what they lose in winemaking expertise, they gain back in having wonderful grapes to start with.
You need to go to a large grocery store ( like Vanguard) and pick up a bottle of Red Label....that way you know it's not fake.
Do NOT buy it in a small store.
If you have a Walmart in your town they have a good selection including Jose Cuervo Tequila.

My Chinese ex loved the baijiu (less calories and bloating).....but was also into red wine...just don't go cheap on the red wine here or you will be burned.

During the winter, the huang jiu (yellow wine) is not too bad, especially when they heat it up first. This is probably what you're seeing in the clay pottery pieces at the store. Lots of varieties here within the name of huang jiu...just give it a try.
In response to your follow up question about what local girls will drink: if you can take them to a western restaurant with western style cocktails, there are lots of fruity chick drinks to choose from. The girls I've known usually go for the "blue one". Various names for it are Blue Hawaiian, Blue Lagoon, etc. Doesn't taste all that strong...but it is. Stealthy 
vodka it is cheap as hell, when god gives you vodka make hard lemonade yummmmmm.
cheap whine (Arbor mist) check who made it mix with juice white trash mimosa damn good mmmmmmmm.
do not trust bourbon or scotch, liqueur laws are not the same, quality sucks.
and don't you dare try buying whiskey unless it is irish pure whiskey or canadian mist whiskey goooood.

Cheap "whine" is what you get when you take your date to a food stand which continues until you take her to a more expenssive restaruant. Then comes the expenssive "whine" which is what you do when you need to pay the bill. And, if she does not "put out" (SEXIS PIG ATTACK!!!) then "whine" is what you do with your buddies the next day. Cheap wine is fermented grape juice at a low price consumed after paying a tidy sum on a date, and having to go home all alone.... ;-P

Bailey's, Advokaat, and a good gin martini. And don't worry about the rice wine. It's good and relatively mild.
korean soju is good, and once in a blue moon(i miss that beer) I go for Jim Beam, its usually available at the larger supermarkets
My favorite, dry red wine. Tasting different kinds is nice, some are lousy, some are really good (I mean Chinese made). As Miss A said, some cabernets made locally are surprisingly good, in the 60 Rmb range.
I do also like beer, but I do not drink too many of those. And cocktails and hard drinks are maybe one per day. I do enjoy a margarita prior to dinner, and I am lucky I can find Jose Cuervo Golden Reserve Tequila when I visit HKG. And my GF loves them too.
Qing Ju, it's a medical bi ju but it tastes a it like cinnamon and to be honest it's only 9 yuan for 250mil bottle. You know Chinese wife and it doesn't matter how much I make in a month, it's still never enough, money in the bank please.
Beer, coffee. What else could you possibly need?
