Never happened to me.  But if it did, I guess it would depend on the circumstances.

I would have to determine if it was an accident, is he alone, am I alone, am I with my wife and family, etc...

If was a purposeful one-on-one thing, then it would be on.  But if you are a foreigner in China, it is almost never a one-on-one thing.  So, if I started swinging it would be with the knowledge that I would get my ass handed to me very quickly.  But I would go down swinging and with my pride intact.

I am not that tough either.  But, even the toughest foreigner will lose when a one-on-one battle turns into a 20-on-1 battle because the one you were fighting played the nationality card and called to others to come and beat the foreign dog.

I do understand, however I do feel that it wouldn't be worth it to stoop down to their level. Being a lady, I would slap the guy probably.

I think then the guy would hit me... I mean I have had men violently push me aside when I was walking down the stairs to the subway stations, and it wasn't even crowded. Makes me feel so violated.

Tako, did this happen to you?  Yuck....my answer would be about the same as expat's above; that being said, icnif77 probably has the right approach.  An eye-for-an-eye and a spit-for-a-spit.

Tako:

No it has never happened to me. But it might someday, so i want to be prepared..haha.

It is lucky they all give "spit warnings" before they spit. After a while, you learn to guage where it is going, and to avoid it if necessary.

One time, I got spit on my shoe (I believe deliberately), so I simply wiped it off on the trouser leg of the obviously amused spitter. His cretin grin soon changed to a look of bewilderment that a foreigner would dare do that to a Chinese person. I said xie xie, and walked on.

Sidi:

Hahahaha! the ultimate solution.
