Q: What do you need to eat to have a normal crap here?

Really. Is constipation even relevant in this country?

Massive amounts of meat. I'm talking going to the chuan chuan or shao kao guy and ordering 20 sticks of chicken or lamb or whatever looks tasty that night. Wash it down with a could beer, put what you don't eat in the fridge for breakfast the next morning. The extra meat in your colon really helps pull everything together. I do this once every few days and keeps me pretty normal (expect for the days after eating plates and plates of spicy for dinner, or from drinking too much baijiu).

At home I can't eat at most fast food reataurants, I know they hose the places clean, I think they still breed bacteria, but if I eat at Wendys etc then I have the nuclear powered glow in the dark, musical poops.
So what do they have in common, grease ? unwashed hands ? rat droppings ? fly poop ?booggers and body fluids in your food ? 30 second rule applies to restaurants ? Hep A B or C ?

This topic may be sniggered at by many, but it is a legitimate question that affects many foreigners here and therefore warrants a legitimate answer. My suggestion is to try acupuncture. Wait, before you laugh and shake your head, read what I have to say!

Acupuncture is known for regulating gastrointestinal tract movements and digestive secretions and it can help get rid of both constipation and diarrhea. Acupuncture can help return an upset digestive system to proper balance by stimulating or inhibiting gastric and intestinal contractions, stimulating or inhibiting secretions of the digestive cells, and by addressing postural dynamics that impose distortional forces on the digestive organs.

To understand it more, read the article below.

Tapwater:

Actually acupuncture in China is a leading cause of the spread of Hepatitis. Acupuncture has no proven medical benefits.

So yeah, don't do that.

I've tried acupuncture... with an open mind.  I really believe that.

Well, after subjecting myself to a variety of practitioners, at a variety of locations and over an extended period of time, I can report that acupuncture is total BULLSHIT!!

 Placebo perhaps, but that's all.

Placebo is real however, so don't be put off by me.

I find the xie yao cha to work a little magic. (found in any pharmacy) A few times week and limiting meat intake. I'm told that eating everything will build your tolerance...I don't agree with this method.

You might have a bug in your intestine, if I was you, I would go back to my country and see what is wrong.
I used to have weak guts, but in China not a problem, Korea was okay as well, Thailand, well I will not comment on it.
It is not good for your health to have the runs all the time.
Good Luck

When I go back home I am fine again, usually within a day, so this is definitively a China thing.

The most important things:

Watch where you eat. There isn't really a lot of health standards and many businesses will use what is dirt cheap (swill oil anyone?). While it might seem convenient to just stop by a small stall, just use your common sense. Are they serving meat? Is it raw? Do you see a refrigerator/ice/cooler anywhere?

Don't drink the tap water. It doesn't get awesome when you boil it either, so don't cook with it when you don't have to. Boiling does not remove heavy metals which is a HUGE issue here.

Whenever possible, buy and cook your food at home so you know what is actually going in to it.

Last, try to find a store that sells cheese, preferably imported. That will bind you right up.

you need to grow a set of balls before you can grow a normal anus, I.E. give your body time to adjust.

The problem people face is that because of this they run straight back to face food, then it's a constant switch between that and Chinese food. That's obviously not good for your body.

Ever hear of travellers diarrhoea? Well if you're staying here long enough embrace the food, don't run away from it.

I eat Chinese food almost exclusivity here, with the exception of the odd KFC meal or crackers and cheese at home. And I am here for 2 months at a time or longer before short trips home and back.
Maybe the problem is I eat out every day, but usually in big restaurants. I only drink bottled water...use it for everything. I won't even brush my teeth with tap water.

I suggest a good dose of food poisoning..that will clean you right out. I suggest to eat a lot of street food, the oily type foods or go to a low end japanese restaurant, that worked really well for one of my teachers... the only problems is, once you start crapping you will wish you hadn't...hehe

The question was more about having a solid movement, your suggestion kinda makes him take two steps in the opposite direction.

Oatmeal with banana jogurt and nuts. Bring your own chopsticks. Pay at least 40 rmb for you meal...

but there is no magic to it. and given the condition of the toilets here, I can assure, Chinese have the shits a lot too. There has never been a Chinese Pascal Pasteur I guess.

He, he, each one has its own trick.  Mine is to eat roasted peanuts or cashews.  About one handfull in the morning and another in the afternoon.  They are rich in oils, and do lubricate the intestins.  Even retore the "normal" brownish color typical of westeners vs the almost black given by chinese food.
And last, establish a routine.  I do get up in the morning, have a cup of coffee and to the "thunderbox" (or WC) to do the SSS routine.  Then I have no further worries for the rest of the day.

I don't know, sometimes I have problems, but after a month of being here it's not a normal problem anymore. I know part of it was getting used to the food. I think I'm more likely to have problems when I eat outside of the college cafeteria, although I don't know how much cleaner it is. I eat meat or egg with every meal, or I drink milk, I don't eat a lot of rice (unless it's fried rice). I try to eat vegetables and fruit several times every day. I honestly don't know what fixed me, but actually I have constipation sometimes. go figure.

I go the other way because i do not drink enough. I can go all day on my morning cup of tea. I don't usually drink when I eat either. So quit drinking.

GuilinRaf:

Better watch out with not drinking! In 1998 I had kidney stones and they were apparently caused due to lack of proper hydration. They are terrible and I don't wish them on anybody. Well, ok. Maybe on one or two people here and there....

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
