Q: What do you NOT miss from back home?
For me it's a number of things that could have easily been remedied by simply turning off the television, but you know how it is, it's so easy to switch it back on again. Things like Big Brother, The X Factor, any shows that follow this ever growing trend of verbally abusing the contestants, like the Weakest Link. Then there's the other side of the coin, the sweeter than sweet morning tv shows, or ANY show that allows boy bands to sing on them. I don't miss the weather. Well, i'm from London. I don't miss dodging those people in the yellow bibs who fill the streets asking for charity donations, or junkies begging money for a fix, or drunks on the bus, or hoodies. Many of these things have of course been replaced by their own, equally ugly cousins.................and when I go back home I don't miss them either. But at least here I don't watch the telly.
i don't miss the higher costs of many things from the simple to more elaborate. It is SOOOOOOO much more expensive for certain things..many things back home. (Plus, compared to when I was growing up.) Location location location.

What don't I miss?
My home town is CHAV central (Cannock, Staffs), on a Friday and Saturday night the town centre is a no go zone, the council filled in the ornamental fountain as it was costing too much to clean out the vomit and used condoms.
Feeling intimidated by groups of youths hanging out together.
Paying 1.35 GBP for a litre of petrol ($8.07 per US Gallon)
Paying 40% tax to fund families who have never worked a single day in their adult lives yet have plasma TV, laptops, and can drink and smoke.
Paying 145GBP a year for a tV license to fund the BBC regardless of whether I watch it.
Too many more to mention, but they form a large part of the reason I'm living and working in China. god, just typing that is making me dread going back in 9 years time!

Transport. Not only the cost but services which run every 30min to get to the city.
In perspective a return journey is just over $9/58rmb using the local transport card or $13/86rmb to travel just 16km.

Lack of public transportation. I live in Kansas City, and you NEED a car to go anywhere. You need a car to go to school, your job, the supermarket, the bank...etc. I hate this because you need a car to get to your job, but you need your job to pay for the car haha.
There is basically no public transportation and everything is so spread out that you can't walk to places. So I do appreciate China for their abundant public transportation. There are hundreds of buses, subways, and taking a taxi is fairly cheap.

There isn't much I don't miss. I can't think of anything... maybe I don't miss being in China? F*ck this place, I'm never coming back once we leave.

I don't miss the political correctness. It's gone mad. Kindergartens and primary schools cancelling Christmas plays and carols because it goes against the beliefs of the Islamists. A group of women who swam in a suburban pool dressed in burkahs were asked to wear normal attire acceptable to a community swimming pool. They sued and won! $50,000!
I don't miss the government kowtowing to all minority groups to the detriment of the rest of the country and getting the backs up of normal Aussies who will mix with anybody. Why go to a different country for a better life then want everything the same as it was back home? WTF!! I think China may have this aspect of racial discrimination right! This is our country. These are our ways. Like it or piss off!
I don't miss the overpriced, crappy public transport system - Perth is like Kansas City it seems.
I don't miss TV at all - apart from my weekly AFL footy but I have been able to stream that on my computer here anyway.
At the risk of offending - I don't miss Western women.
I don't miss driving my car, believe it or not. Anyway, if I drove here I would shoot somebody within an hour of being on the road!
The wacky obsession that the UK police have with road traffic policing set against the lack of control that many forces have over crime, drug dealing and other anti-social behaviour. I am well aware that people are killed in cars and controls need to be in place. The thing that irritates me is the imbalance that exists between controlling behaviour on the roads compared with controlling behaviour in other aspects of daily life. Being the cynic that I am, I put it all down to the need for targeting easy groups - the motorist (who aside from drifting a couple of MPH above the speed limit or having a tail light that is dysfunctional) would probably go through life without attracting the attention of any police officer.

The lack of jobs, tories, The Daily Mail, little-England small town mindsets... the list goes on though generally relates to slow simple small-minded life.

Aggression,on a night out,or just walking home sometimes,comes from anyone for any unknown reason.Still makes me sad that is what most of the UK as turned out to be like these days
