Q: What do you say about China's Internet communication system?

We know that China is one of the nation in the world ,which has succeded in controlling Internet resources according to the need with a huge internet user population. They are giving good encouragment for the local Internet services providers.I was surprised to see people in China more familiar with their local search engines ,forums and blogs ,its a sign of healthy growth of Internet within China. But as a foreigner,I am facing much difficulty in using the Internet resources from China.I just want to know how other foreign people adapt to this situation.

Keep on looking for VPNs, and curse the internet "harmony" to hell all the time, while crying on the inside.

Five things come inmediately to my mind when I think of Internet in China, and they are:

Slow
Unreliable (disconnected or no servive available too often.
Abusive
Limited access
Even at the low price provided, not worth the money, but there is nothing else.

I find it hard to believe that a foreigner would care whether or not Chinese use domestic search engines and blogs. I don't, anymore than I care whether or not Bhutanese use Bhutanese sites, Uruguaians use Uruguaian sites, etc. Not my country, not my culture. None of my business.

Likewise, I've never heard of anyone so culturally protectionistic as the Chinese. Except maybe the people of North Sentinel Island

Mattaya?

derek:

You said,"Likewise, I've never heard of anyone so culturally protectionistic as the Chinese. Except maybe the people of North Sentine Island"

What a great question topic.                   Why are they like that?
