Q: What do you want to add?
Talking to a mate about the things that happen to us in China and had a epiphany to write down some of the stuff that happens to me
You guys have read my stuff about the umbrella incident crossing the road
Or the suit case stories and the other day to day stuff that is part of life be it as a single person or married into the culture
So here is your chance to tell your tales to contribute to future victims ...I mean adventurists of the future
Just keep the stories content to a level that you would let your kids read
To quote the motto of a well-known organisation: Be prepared (for ANYTHING). No matter what anyone tells you, you have to expect the unexpected from anyone and in any situation.
Don't apply logic as you know it.
To a certain action, you might not get back the expected reaction.
Apologies to Sorrel there but, you cannot be prepared for here.
The best you can do is try not to let it get to you too much.
Find things that will make you happy, whether it is getting a coffee in Costa/Starbucks or slobbing out watching the entire first series of your favourite drama with a massive bag of crisps. Make sure you do these things regularly and it will help.
sorrel:
true, you can not be prepared for EVERYTHING China throws at you ;o)
Scandinavian:
Yup mike. It is precisely the inability to prepare that makes China the rollercoaster ride it is. Nothing in the country is planed, you cannot do anything but go with the flow. When you see a problem in the making, if you try to stop it you will be frowned upon, in China problems have to develop, mature, then instead of being solved, they sort of dissolve. Instead of people simply learning from mistakes and improving, the wheel is reinvented a billion times per day.
If anything is simple and straightforward, the Chinese will make it heinously complicated.
It seems that is the Chinese mission in life and the reason for the Chinese to exist.
There is a line in a movie as good as it gets when the guy is asked how he can write the women parts so well? he replies I think like a Man then remove reason and accountability !!! for me that describe's Chinese pretty well
lol
Scandinavian:
pretty good comparison, but you have to add spitting, so the comparison with females, of the feminine kind, is out the window
I had a fella drive into the back of my bike yesterday. Now in England you have your fair share of a###holes on the road, but if someone is that obviously in the wrong they'll most likely bow their head and admit fault. Well this is the second time this has happened to me and each time it went the same; me shouting and cursing in Chinese and them shouting back at me without the slightest hint of guilt at the obvious fact that they were in the wrong. It was kind of funny yesterday though because I wanted to say to him, in my still struggling Chinese, "Do you have glasses mate?" (in fact he was already wearing glasses) but in my flustered state I accidently asked him for a cigarette.
I see people moving all the time, but they don't seem to be going anywhere.
