Q: What does China have to keep it going?

So, China is making enemies all over the world - and in particular, locally. They've ignored international rulings for a simple power-game (even when the US does it, they can at least come up with excuses for why others should agree with them - but China hasn't mastered this element of politicising).

So, other than cheaper prices (which aren't so cheap anymore),and a large consumer market (which, if the rest of the world comes into money as quickly, will mean that's less important) - a) what's China got going for it that will stop companies leaving, and b) will stop other countries calling out China on its BS?

Is the China romance likely to end soon? And, when?

The large and growing consumer base is what will keep China going. Companies from the rest of the world simply cannot ignore such a large market potential. Even if you don't want to be in China, perhaps your shareholders will force you.

Here's my 50 cents, for whatever it's worth..

The world is seeing the real China and it's not the modern friendly image everyone saw in the Beijing Olympics and that they tried to sell with the soft power campaign. I think it's actually quite an unpleasant image and it's turning people away from China.

IMO the only thing China still has going for it is the fact that it's still an economic powerhouse, still has some global influence because of that and is a major export market for a lot of countries, a market that would be hard to replace in the short term.

That is changing but until it does the emperor's outrageous bullshiz will have to be somewhat tolerated. They won't be called out as often or harshly as they should be but I think the downward spiral has definitely started.

Massive unsolved problems and the business opportunity they bring. Non-solution of problems strictly enforced by law.

Keep in mind that there are solid Chinese financial (and to an extent political) forces at play in the various capitals throughout SE Asia...be it Singapore, Bangkok, KL, Manila, etc. As the news mentions, Cambodia, Laos, and Burma are pro China as well.  While it can be questioned and/or debated what role China plays on the international stage as a great power/ global power/ etc.   It can not be denied its solidly held position as a regional power, which would be extremely hard to dismantle.

China manufactures one product better and more consistently than any other nation, namely more Chinese. And the constraints have been recently loosened. I see no end to the opportunities in bilking and defrauding in the interim.

China & Australia, i.e. Ozz-man is broke like all West is and buddy is loaded ....

China to Launch the World's First Quantum Satellite

The satellite will perform experiments relating to quantum communications and entanglement.

China is planning to bring quantum physics to space. Researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Austrian Academy of Sciences are collaborating to build a satellite that will perform the first ever quantum experiments in orbit. The experiments could have applications in future telescopes and communication technology.

The Chinese satellite will be launched sometime in August, where it will test the limits of quantum communication. Onboard the satellite will be a special crystal that generates pairs of entangled photons, which will be fired at two laboratories in Beijing and Vienna. These photons will be used to test the range of quantum entanglement and the feasibility of quantum communications.

Quantum communications rely on a particular property of subatomic particles, that observing them changes their state. Researchers have previously developed ways to use this property to encrypt data, because anyone eavesdropping on communications would leave a mark. The satellite team hopes to deploy this technology in space, where transmitting quantum data is easier.

This is a great place for entrepreneurs despite the ill-sayings of some.

Starting and running a business in China is usually stress-free and pretty straightforward, such a breeze compared to bloated Europe where you need countless red tape to do anything.

Of course speaking the language helps, so does knowing the ins and outs of business relationships in China.

No seriously, I have many things to criticize about China, but doing business is not of of these things, it's easy as fuck.

Stiggs:

I'd heard that some of the complaints foreign companies have here are the excessive red tape, the uneven playing field where it's one rule for Chinese and another rule for everyone else, the vague rules and laws that can be interpreted any way the powers that be want, the lack of IPR, the requirement to hand over your technology to the government and probably a host of others.

Doesn't sound very easy to me.

Shining_brow:

To start a business here, you need to go through about 5 different departments and 6 different lots of forms. And that doesn't include leasing and hiring of staff (if you're allowed to, depending on your business), and thus doesn't include social security, taxation, etc... And also doesn't include if you're doing import/export, and the licenses for that!

And, if you actually have premises (eg, a cafe or restaurant) there's all the extra hongbaos needed to keep the business running...

In mentioning those forms, it doesn't indicate the headaches you can have because you miss one tiny little thing... or worse, people not bothering to tell you exactly what you need, and so the potential number of times you need to go back and forth to the same people (or across departments for a stamp).

And, lastly - the biggest PITA that I've come across - the Chinese! Or, more specifically, their tendency over-promise and under-deliver. Or their need to keep you at a disadvantage (even when it costs them in the long run).

Two examples... firstly, I HATE marketing people here. I was in negotiations with a group to market my product... apparently, things when all pear-shaped when they discovered I had competition...!!!! OMFG! So what?????

Secondly, trying to be an exporter to back home... NO-ONE understands the concept of 'sample'. Everywhere here is 'give us a bucket of money, buy a pile of product - and that's your sample!" Or, "look at this one example in our shop"... Colour brochures? What's that???

BHGAL:

I have bought  few good things as "samples"   while bullshitting that I may buy more. You can buy samples at reasonable costs.

they even keep calling me....  both from the original place and where my best contact now works....    "can we send you a few more?"

find what you desire on alibaba ... they only sell 1000 at a time.. call them...tell them I only want 5-10 and want to check them out.... I am in China...just send them to me. I am busy , 10 minutes, yes or no? samples are half price +/-
