Q: What does donkey taste like? Expensive?

A few friends have recommended I try donkey. I'm a little irked by the thought. Anyone tried it?

It's not much different from horse or camel (though I doubt that helps much).

It's a very lean meat with long muscle fibers.  If cooked right, it has the potential to basically fall apart in your mouth (though it's normally cooked overdone like most meat here).  I would recommend eating it warm, or at least room temp (some places serve it cold and personally it doesn't work well with the texture).

As DeBen said, it is hard to describe the taste without a common reference point.  However, it is pretty good in my opinion.

As icerock says, it is normally served in steamed buns, or jiaotzi.  I first had it when I was living in Dalian.

There is a saying in Chinese that says, "People in heaven eat Dragon.  People on Earth eat Donkey."  It is considered by Northerners, mostly, to be one of the best meats available.  However, I have never seen it as expensive at all.  The jiaotzi I had were about the same price as normal meat jiaotzi.

It is very tasty, depending on the seasoning. As some said, good in Jiaozi, but watch out after you eat it. You could make an ass out of yourself.

I was taken by some friends to a restaurant that specialised in donkey meat. I was cooked in a number off different ways. I found it to be OK'is with a stronger taste than normal but it was not as appealing as the staples pork, beef, lamb. They said it was the "king of meats" but I would not go out of my way to eat it again.

It depends on how you like your donkey! DO you like the ass up or down on the plate? Maybe you can turn it on it's side because not everything on a donkey tastes the same. It's not expensive! It's a donkey!

If it's anything like horse, I'd eat it. Horse is amazing, cooked right!

I have eaten it a few times here, always in hot-pot which obscures the taste of everything....   it tasted alright, not bad, not good.

Some of my friends said it tasted like Ass~

Well if you ever eat street food, you've probably had donkey. As for the taste, well I just can't place it. I will say this, I fell in love with eat. At first I was like ugh, I'm eating donkey, then I was like you know this isn't so bad.

A:No, it's not allowed to work under RP at 2nd job! I'd say, Z visa/RP sponsor can have an objections to your part-time job. I did the same at my English teaching in China and elsewhere, butT ... I casually mentioned at my prime job, some kindergarten or another school asked me to work with them part-time. Then, my Q: "Is that permitted?" ...  Answer from RP sponsor was always "Yes, but you can't be late or miss the classes at our school ..." with my reply: "No, our work schedule has a priority, and I'll arrange classes at kindergarten only in my free time." When I cleared that, I was undertaking any extra teaching hours at other schools and private students in my free time.Sometimes, teachers at my prime job asked me if I'm willing to have some extra classes elsewhere.I accepted after the talk with School's principal. I suggest, you test the felling at your Z/RP sponsor and once you see they don't object, you can work at 2nd job. Keeping your 2nd job as a secret from your employer won't work, 'cause you're laowai and Chinese know exactly what you do in your free time. However, despite your employer's agreement for extra work, you are still in violation of Chinese Labour law, and even if your sponsor agrees to your extra work, you can still get in trouble, because it's clearly written (somewhere ... ) that under Z/WP, one can work only at the Z-sponsor and nowhere else. Penalties ... I'd say, there won't be any warnings and you'll be required to exit China in short Exit time.It never happened to me, so I can't really advice how is when manure hits the fan ...  -- icnif77
