All over town I see people dancing, walking backwards etc. Generally it appears people are relatively active. However, I rarely see people run, those who bike do so in slow motion, people swimming are generally really slow. Nothing to get the heartbeat up. What does TCM recommend in the real of physical activity ?

strenuous exercise is probably classed along the same lines as drinking cold water - it puts a strain on your body. But i have noticed that many younger Chinese use gyms, so it is probably just exercising in public that is not as acceptable yet. With 'western' levels of obesity on the rise, 'western' exercise may become more visible.
I have been told it is bad for the 'fire' in your body if you do strenuous physical exercise. It makes ones fire to hot and you need to see the quack...
Maybe this is a little off topic, but... lots of exercise will kill you in China. The pollution will eventually catch up to you. If you want to exercise, do it indoors, and with a machine that cleans the air.
