Q: What to do/see/try in Beijing around winter time?

I will be in Beijing until December 5th. Being from a tropical weathered country, I am having issues already with the cold; however; I still want to do some touristy things. Any ideas? I have gone to the main stuff (The Great Wall, Summer Palace, Forbidden City, etc.) Any expat secrets???

Go to Beihai Park on a frosty Beijing morning with a flask of hot chocolate/tea and enjoy the scenery and serenity. Or go to Houhai in the afternoon for a round of ice-skating on the lake followed by a simple, yet delicious meal in one of the quaint restaurants along the hutongs. Of treat yourself to a hot pot feast in the evening, followed by a DVD marathon wrapped in a cosy blanket in your flat.

Mr_spoon:

Agreed on the Houhai ice skating part. But you might have to wait a while, at least to be sure the ice layer is thick enough.

go to Tian, squ for the flag raising ceremony. I think it begins at 6ish (or when the sun comes up).
Lots of ppl go to see it. Ive been here for over 2 years and I havnt been yet, but I plan to.
if getting up so early is hard, then go out the night before and go straight to the ceremony. At least you'll still be buzzed..........
