Q: What effect does the western media have on government decisions here?
Does negative global coverage of events in China have an effect with CCP direction on certain sensitive matters?
In the last 2 years I have seen a drastic difference in PR (and a result the softening of punishment or the turning of heads) from the government on certain big news stories...what do you think?
Is the "truth" having an effect on policy?
TheDude, I want to make sure that I caught the meaning of your post correctly and if I didnt', please excuse me.
I actually think that as a result of the media there have been some significant shifts around here. .
1. The Chung Jing affair. The Pommie, the drinks, the wife and all of that. It was because of the Bee Bee Cee among others that it didn't go away. Look what happened.
2. The Kun Su Late and the Po Leece guy. That made the Western press and things trembled quite seriously.
3. The Fer Rar E smack-up and the change in the old guard. Same.
4. The New York Times was a big gung-ho Yank with certain people and it resulted only in getting the paper banned. It allowed the previous prez e dent to reassert some authority and clean house a bit.
So yes indeed -- some changes.

Scandinavian, I don' know where you are in China but where I am the Internet is now more problematic than it has ever been in the past. Even the simplest sites are often unattainable.

I am in a happy place where it is possible to reach the whole world, but only at short intervals before the VPN times out. Yes. It does indeed suck in ways it has not sucked in the past. But things are still accessible. It seems like there is a glitch in the connection every x minutes, to make sure nothing is easy.
My gut tells me that the answer is "no" for the simple fact that they aren't going to let outsiders shame them into behaving better.
western MEDIA has little or no effect on the great powers of China ........... social media is having an effect around the world, including China. Government decisions are made in, what they deem to be, the best interests of the country, not necessarily the people these days. let's see them accounting books!!!!!!!
