Q: What ever happened to the smoking ban in public buildings in Beijing?

Is it actually a regulation/law yet?
Is it being enforced at all?
Is it completely DOA?

Being a non-smoker, I keep hoping that something with this actually happens. Because second-hand smoke is * awesome*.

Well business are supposed to have a smoking area but they are not forced to enforce said smoking area. There are supposed to be "secret" smoking police that if they catch you smoking where you shouldn't, then they will fine you a few rmb. So basically you can smoke where ever you want and you'll be fine unless it's just your shitty day.

The situation now is nowhere near what it was before. It's been a long time i've not seen anybody smoke in the bus, train, school, hospital. Even the taxi drivers seem to have quit as well... at least in GZ, but GZ seems to be more civilized than some other cities in many aspects

Have seen many people smoking in hopital staff and patients who has the right to stop them I took a cigarete off someone and shouted at him he looked confused didnt know he was doing wrong

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
