Steak...twice. Both from "western" restaurants. Both times my fault. Why I insisted on rare steak when I had been imbibing is beyond me but I did. And I paid with several days with one end on the throne and the other in the sink.

ilcornalito:

I also learned not to eat steak other than well done in China. I learned it the "hard" way.

Not food, just when I first arrived in China and drank tap water all the time.

A grilled corn and apples bought in Lanzhou train station. It tasted fine but then my digestive tract went apeshit. I think my gas output could power a small city for a couple of hours, I had minor intestinal bleeding and my poop had colors I never seen before, with bits of un digested corn. Sounds like dodgy chemicals in the corn or/and the apples. On the nice side, maybe the Gobi Desert have a green stretch of mutant corn now.

Some Macau streetfood. I was down for days, high fever and high TP usage.

With fish, it fckd my immune system and now became allergic to fish, so can't eat fish anywhere in the world without getting diverse allergic reactions. I had depp studies here in China, in the beginning they said is allergy to one specific kind of fish but later on became to any fish. Thanks China fishes.

I'd suggest to everyone avoid fish, most of times unless you can speak a little chinese you may receive "river" fish if we can call river to the place where they take them, but better don't take it, that's my advice.

diverdude1:

chiners eat carp. raised in fish-ponds, fed with decomposing slop collected in those blue barrels u see all over town, but for extra flavoring they dump the outhouse collection in there too.

Translation:  if u r dumb/naive/savage enuf to eat trash fish; then u r eating re-recycled slop punctuated with human urine/feces.

sorry, but truths the truth.

Only had it once and it was from a meatball.  That was the one of the worst pains I've been through.

2005, fish soup from a dinner in a UBC Coffee in Xiamen. I woke up with a giving-birth-to-Alien-like pain, I almost fainted.

Fish, no doubt in my mind. Order it at your own risk. Luckily, my immune system catches on to bad food really fast and starts pounding the eject button before it can really mess me up.

A tuna sandwich in Guilin in my first week here. The evacuation process occurred at both ends and was incessant for it's three day duration. In other words a light snack on a Friday evening left me shitting buckets and blowing chunks till Monday afternoon.

Nachos with cheese, from a restaurant close to my university.

They gave me a food poisoning so bad that the first time I went to throw up, the puke jet was so strong, the water and puke came splashing back on my face. And that's how I got conjunctivitis for the first time. It was a fun week.

The second time was from a Japanese buffet.

All-you-can-puke buffet, for only 98 yuan!

Those really cheap sausages. You know the ones with a picture of a lion on them. I usually only give them to my dog but was drunk and hungry one time. I ate about 3 of them. The next day I was in terrible pain and unable to leave the bathroom. At about 2pm I was stable enough to get to the hospital. I honestly thought I was going to die. No way I will eat those sausages again.

I would have to say a chicken steak I had in Guangzhou. It took me down for the next couple of days or so.

I think the worst thing that I ever ate was some seafood in Hong Kong, and it was pretty expensive too - completely knocked me out to the point of hospitalisation. Thanks Hong Kong. Still weary of going back to HK...

There is also the Chinese version of Spam, not fake Spam but Chinese brands of processed pork luncheon meat, ate this one time on bread, never again.

Dalian restaurant, friend offered me  'Oyster's' [the first and the last]  which I really didn't want, however  after intense persuading and to please them I except one [1] yes just one, 8 days later I was bound for a London hospital. Total gut wrenching I attended a Dalian hospital and was told just up-set tummy, and it will be fine, keep taking the medicine. 8 days later I took a flight to London, straight from the airport to the hospital, severe bout of food poisoning, with no signs of it getting any better, it took almost another week on infusion. Not the first time I've had issues with China hospitals. So for me while in China, NO chicken, NO Seafoods of any type, No dodgy looking meats or other produces, NO street vendors.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
