Q: What gifts do people in China normally give for someone who just had a baby?
Probably a 'red envelope' - it seems to be the appropriate / expected gift for many occasions
Depending on how close you are to them but a pendant with the Chinese animal of the year of birth is tasteful.

Baby sling or carrier. It freaks me out when I see people riding on scooters or motorcycles and the woman is just holding the baby.
Probably some baby diapers or some baby food..
