11 years 32 weeks ago in Family & Kids - China
Something from your home country is always a big hit. For women, they'll love you if you give them foreign cosmetics, perfumes, designer accessories etc. For men, if you really want to win them over get them an ipad or some other electronic gadget. The more you spend, the more they'll like you. Make no mistake: materialism is alive and kicking in China and while they may pretend to be modest and not care about what you give them, the truth that no Chinese person will admit, is that they totally pay attention to the price tag and labels. Once you've turned your back, your gift will be scrutinized by all. A cheap gift obviously will reflect very poorly on you and your character. Parents will think that you are either a cheapskate, poor or not willing to look after the family properly. There are a lot of unspoken rules in gift-giving in China. Be ready to spend a lot!
Thanks, much appreciated. Although is it best to give one gift per couple (ie: mum & dad, sister and her husband etc.) or give gifts individually?
For Pops, dont forget that a carton of good cigarettes and a bottle of fancy liquor is a good go to
Most Chinese Dad's like good scotch. Gives them something to break out when company is over.
