Q: What is a good salary for teaching English in say, Fuzhou? Are there opportunities in Fuzhou?

I am native British and an experienced teacher with a Chinese/Hong Kong wife. I will be visiting Fuzhou in August if anyone can give me any heads up.

Typical pay for a teacher in a Tier 2 or 3 city is between 6-8k RMB.  This will also normally include a 1 bedroom or shared apartment near the school.  Depending on experience, the school, etc...  You may be able to get up to 10k, but that is rare in a city that size.

As for opportunities, all I can say is keep an eye on the classified section of this website.  Opportunities for all around China are posted there all the time.

As a side note, no matter where you try to get employed, always try to talk to any other foreign teachers there one-on-one before you sign a contract.  That will help you prevent you from working for a nightmare school.
