Q: What hairstyle is cool in China for guys? (female opinons welcome as well)

In need of a haircut.

I noticed that like 90% of cool Chinese guys here have that sort of undercut style with short sides, but long in the front and back, but I've unfortunately got huge ears and a long face, and I think it'd look sorta funny with that style.

Can anyone point me to a good Chinese style blog or something?

Not an answer I am afraid. What I miss here is good old fashioned barbershops. Go in, conversation goes, "usual?", "yup", flurry of scissors and out within 10 minutes. I can't be doing with these multiple hair washes, massages, each hair cut individually, Chinese haircuts. I want to be in like Flyn, and out the door faster than a British Leyland shop steward.

I like the scalp massage if a woman does it.  If a man does it I still take it but it doesn't sit that well with me.

You can still find real barber-shops in Manila.  They have kept the real barber-shop experience there, proper atmosphere, proper furnishings from the 50's that never changed because when it's right, it's right, straight-razor shave and everything.

Beats the heck out of how today in most places of the world they want a man to go into a 'salon' and it might as well be a place for the girls to go to.

My wife has been urging me to go to the haircut shop for 2 weeks now but when she saw my new hairstyle this morning she gushed and said my Mum was right...I am a handsome boy.

What I did was comb my hair perfectly flat, with a part on the left side, a la 1965.  And that'll be the first time I've combed my hair in many a long day.

Comments from the workplace too.  This might become the new normal.

I didn't mate.  I just found a comb and combed it.  Might get away without a haircut for another couple of weeks.

Do as the Chinese do - stick your head in a pencil sharpener.

Or...DIY, leaving those ever-so-sexy bald patches in the back

Or...Get a box-top (the 30-year rage in Guangzhou, even better if you have the head of a bulldog)

Or...simply tell your significant other that you screwed yet another xioajie last night and he/she will slap you upside the head and you'll look like most 30-year olds

Or...dye your hair "black hole" black, regardless of age, and affect the Mao style (30s, 40s, 70s or post-mortem).

Avoid the mullet at any cost.

I'm a low maintenance kinda guy. I had long hair before coming to china but there is enough slack jawed luddites already so i went back to military style. I don't even own a brush or comb. Stick my head under the shower, a quick rub with a towel and out the door.

The guy who cuts my hair looks like the crack dealer for an outlaw bike gang but does a good job in less than 10 minutes with clippers and a scissor cleanup. 15 rambos and I'm done. The wife, lovely woman she is, maintains that he's robbing me. And I don't look like I'm heading off to the Gay Madi Gras in the way most Chinese hairdressers will leave you....and for a fistfull of red maos

Basically, if a Chinese guy likes it you should choose a different haircut.

A lot of Chinese guys use their haircut as a way to telegraph to the public that they are mentally retarded, have no cock and listen to Justin Bieber.
