For instance if the restaurant brings your food out and you find something that doesn't belong. It could be a piece of string or anything that is not edible. What is the best that restaurants can do to make up for that? Will they do anything at all? Apologize? Ask if your ok?
Last time, you were my waiter and got the order wrong.

And that's when you took my job and now your working at that same restaurant.. ^ ^

I make four times what you did , just in tips and they like me.
Customer service doesn't exist here. Even in the Western-owned places. Tell the you're not paying and never go back.
You can ask the waiter to pick out the string, or pick it out yourself. Chances are they will not give you a fresh plate of food. If they give you the wrong dish, they will probably give it to you, and there's nothing you can do to change it without it becoming a big thing, which most try to avoid. This ain't America.
There is wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Actually, a non edible but identifiable object like string would bother me less than thinking about some of the crap they put in food here that I can't identify.
If I have a bad experience I don't go back...simple.
Unless of course it's the only Pizza Hut in town and I get a peice of plastic baked into the pizza cheese...then I get pissed off...forget it...then go back 2 weeks later for my fix.
Hmmm - interesting how everyone here have only mentioned negative experiences!!!
I, OTOH, have had a few positive ones! (perhaps foolishly... sorry, scratch that - definitely foolishly ) I've had plates sent back to be re-done (no doubt with added chef!!)
I've gotten stuff I didn't order, and had it replaced. I've had apologies, and I've had stuff deducted off bills.
The worst scenario I had was when a (new) waitress got it seriously wrong (after being told what I don't eat, she promptly recommended something covered with the stuff). I've had that twice now. On one occasion, they just took it off the bill (it was late, and the chefs were going home... BS!!!!!). On the other occasion, they just made me something else.
But, hairs and other non-edibles... yeah, not that's not going to happen. They don't care too much. But then, I see it as not much different to back home as far as what ends up in your stomach!
I always COMPLAIN.
One time I was eating an apple crumble from blue frog, I found a hair in it!!! It was so disgusting! My bf just wanna forget about it, but I insisted. So we called blue frog and they apologized AND brought over another burger with french fries and a Chocolate Brownie FOR FREE.
They also said if next time we go there they will offer us sth free.
The other time was in xin tian di, I ordered a steak, it was not eatable! The table was shaking when I cut it. So yes, I complained again. The manager came over and apologized. He said i was not the first one complain about the steak. So He didn't charge for the steak and offered me free noodles.
oh. one just happened recently, I was traveling in yun nan last month, after I went up to the snow mountain, I ordered curry chicken and i found human hair again!!! So I went there and complained , even there were a lot of people waiting in line, the staff still apologized and give me a new one with more meat.
A lot of people(like my friends) they don't complain, like last time we were in ktv, the system broke down FIVE times! It was so annoying and it wasted our time, so i complained and the manager brought us free fruit !
too many ........... also one time me and my bf we went to park hyatt, we sat by the window and ordered some food, drinks. But the service at that night was horrible, we waited too long for our dish and we could barely get a waitor. So I told my bf that he should complain, next day he wrote a letter to park hyatt, and the manager responded, he invited us to go there again and he would like to make it up to us.
I think complain is the right thing to do, of course do it with good manner, we make them improve, offer better service, or some of them will take it for granted.
