In 1 year so far in China I have stayed in hotels and serviced apartments.
After enormous pressure from my gf I have finally rented a real apartment now with her.
With the deposits agent fees rent and buying everything needed is bad enough.
But 5 days of cleaning the place because it was filthy is worse and I still have more to do. Add to this delays in hooking up the TV and internet and I am going stark raving mad.
What would happen if I bail on the lease? I miss room service and eating out.
The upside (or scary thing) is that I am finally out of the hotel bubble and really living in China for the first time.
Was I crazy to do this? What is the best way to adapt?
Dude: I will not say "I TOLD YOU", but read back on your posts and find my reply to one asking you why move out of a full service apartment into your own ?. Unless you enjoy homework, like dusting, sweeping, mopping, washing dishes and clothes, etc.
Too late now, be patient and learn to survive like the rest of us do. Remember there is light at the end of a tunnel, unless it belongs to a train bearing down on you !
Ok, you got tossed a lemon, here is the tequila!
You now have the PERFECT excuse for NOT helping around the house! If./when your GF starts to complain that you do not help her or gives you your house cleaning "chores" you now can say "Oh no! YOU are the one who wanted to move out of the serviced apartment, so now YOU can do the housework in this one! Now, go get me a beer!"
Hugs is gonna kill me....
philbravery:
Oh yeah
your definitely going to die when she reads this
Dude
is this the GF that you got rid of or a new one?
or another one you haven't mentioned yet?
HugAPanda:
No, I'm not going to kill you.
I'll just file it awsy to use against you later
And make you do all the house work and paint my toe nails wearing nothing but a loin cloth if we were to ever move in together.
(hahathats gonna get the rumors flowing!)
thedude:
phil....same old gf...I got back together with her and got rid of the others....big step. GuiliunRaf...she hasn't cleaned a thing since we moved in although she has cooked all the meals and washed the clothes.
GuilinRaf:
Cool! Maybe you can get insurance? Oh, thats right, landlord gets the insurance.
Oh well, now you have an excuse to move back!
"Well honey, you burned down our last place, so now we h ave to go back..."
Ayi. problem solved and little ol' lady needs the income too.
Make the GF clean it, just say it looks good enough and if she wants different, then clean it herself. And pray that she does. Don't get the TV connected until she has the place clean,, once she turns on the TV she'll be in the trance zone and notice nothing.

I was in the exact same boat as you, but in reverse. I lived in an apartment in Shanghai for 2 years and then when I moved to Beijing I lived in a 5 star hotel.
SO much better.
go back to the hotel pronto.
Dude.
Bail and move back into the serviced apartment. Who wants to spend their time cleaning?
TheDude, pay a cleaner to clean it while you supervise with a beer
thedude:
I hired a woman the first day here and she did such a bad job I decided to do it myself. Although I am thinking of hiring someone for once a week to clean now.
Ayi
Yeah
just what he needs another woman in the house
Furnish the apartment with a load of "boys toys"- Plasma T.V, Xbox, recliner Chair, if you have a balcony hell wack a pool table there. It will soon seem like home and much better the other.
Financially i expect its a lot cheaper.
Get a cleaner and you can still eat out anyway
Just live there for awhile and you should adapt just fine. Nothing better to adapt then to have the experience. You've been living in hotels for awhile and you decided you needed change and change will come your way!
